Newtown High School’s softball team got back into the win column with an offensive outburst — two dozen runs to be exact — against visiting Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on April 18. The Nighthawks swung heavy bats en route to a 24-2 triumph over the Cougars, putting the skids on a three-game losing streak.

It doesn’t seem to matter who Newtown High School’s volleyball team plays. The Nighthawks improved to 9-0 overall, posting their sixth and seventh 3-0 triumphs with wins over FCIAC teams, host Danbury on April 17 and visiting Trumbull the next day.

The way in which Newtown High School’s boys’ lacrosse team started each of its last two games certainly played a role in the victories, but it was strong second-half play that sparked wins at Stepinac of New York on April 13 and home against Weston on April 16.

Newtown High School's girls' golf team defeated Weston, and the NHS boys' golfer topped Bethel in matches this week.

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' tennis teams both earned 7-0 wins on the road on April 16. The girls were victorious at Masuk of Monroe and the boys won at Stratford High.

Newtown High School's girls' track and field team, on April 10, completed a meet that started the day before but was halted by lightning and rain. Newtown defeated Notre Dame-Fairfield 150-0, Weston 91-59, and Joel Barlow of Redding 112-35, at Blue & Gold Stadium.

Newtown High School's boys' volleyball team shook off a second-set win by host Masuk of Monroe by seizing early control in game three on the way to a 3-1 (25-8, 19-25, 25-8, 25-21) triumph, on the road on April 10, then defeated Kolbe Cathedral 3-0 on April 15.

Connor Haywood hit an inside-the-park home run, and pitched the Newtown High School baseball team to a 7-1 triumph over visiting Hall of West Hartford on April 12.

Newtown High School's boys' lacrosse team visited New Milford and came away with a 19-0 win on April 4. Tanner Stergue was dominant on the draw, winning 21 faceoffs and the defense of Andre Shirk, Alec Budd, Jake Bulkley, Andre Sokk, Michael Haddick, and Fritz Maurath helped goaltender Jake Dandrea pitch a shutout.
