Newtown High School’s girls’ lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season with four consecutive victories as the Nighthawks followed up a 16-0 triumph over Notre Dame-Fairfield on May 7 with a 16-6 win at Bethel two days later, an 11-5 win over Fairfield Warde on May 11, and a 10-1 victory over Brookfield on May 13.

Last year at this time, Justin Halmose ran his first 5K. And he won. Fast forward 365 days (plus a week) and several races later, and Halmose again came out on top in the Run4Hunger 5K to benefit the FAITH Food Pantry, hosted by Knights of Columbus, St Virgilius Council 185, at Fairfield Hills. The second annual race took place on a chilly, low 50s but windy, May 11 morning.

Newtown’s Jordan Conrad recently returned from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, where the skier won the Mayor of Freeride award, an accomplishment for his efforts in the North American, United States, and Canadian freeride community.

A lot of pieces have come together for Newtown High School’s baseball team to have the season it has thus far, — the Nighthawks are the only remaining team unbeaten in the South-West Conference, with just a handful of regular-season games to play — but the Hawks look to have as a good a chance (if not better) than anybody to win the South-West Conference because of the piece that is pitching.

Looking to bolster its playoff readiness, Newtown High School’s girls’ lacrosse team took on a pair of tough nonconference teams this past week. The Nighthawks saw their six-game unbeaten streak end in a hard-fought 12-10 setback at FCIAC foe Ridgefield on May 2.

In a battle of unbeaten South-West Conference boys' lacrosse foes, Newtown High School fell 17-5 to visiting New Fairfield, on May 4. The Nighthawks bounced back with a 19-1 win at Notre Dame-Fairfield in the next contest.

Newtown High School's boys' golf team, led by David Brestovansky's first-place score of 78, Newtown High School's boys' golf team placed second among 16 teams in this past weekend's Woodland Invitational. NHS shot 366, and Joel Barlow of Redding carded a 364 for the top score.
