The Newtown Youth Wrestling Association (NYWA) had 37 wrestlers who competed in the Connecticut Youth Wrestling State Championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven in early March. This represents the most wrestlers the NYWA has qualified for the state championships in the program's 15-year history.

The Newtown High School boys' ice hockey team bounced back after two tough losses with a winning streak of seven games beginning January 31 and throughout the month of February. The Nighthawks had a rough start to their season but are improving as a team throughout the past month.

The host Immaculate High boys' basketball team overcame a solid effort from visiting Newtown to win their South-West Conference tournament semifinal contest 55-48 on March 3.

Newtown High School's girls' basketball team defeated visiting Cheshire 48-26 in the first round of the Class LL state tournament on March 2.

The high school basketball postseason continues tonight, Monday, March 2. Newtown High School's girls' team will host Cheshire in the Class LL state tournament's opening round at 6:30 pm. Newtown's boys' South-West Conference tourney semifinal-round visit to Immaculate of Danbury, originally scheduled for March 2, has been rescheduled to be played on Tuesday, March 3; tip is at 7 pm.

Bart Smith, who played in the Newtown Youth Basketball Association (NYBA) in the 1970s, read the first part of the series recognizing the 50th anniversary and shared some of his memories of basketball in town 40-plus years ago. Smith said one of the reasons this coverage interests him so much is that NYBA and other leagues in town were just coming into existence when he, along with brothers and sisters, were of age to participate.

After the postgame ceremony, while the top-seeded Notre Dame-Fairfield players celebrated their 70-40 triumph over second-seeded Newtown High School in the February 26 South-West Conference championship game at neutral site Bunnell’s gym, the Nighthawk players and coaches met to discuss the positive side of things.

The second matchup between South-West Conference foes in a little over a week was quite a bit more of a challenge, but Newtown High School's boys' basketball team battled past visiting Weston 64-57 in the SWC tournament quarterfinals on February 28.

The 2020 TCS New York City Marathon Charity Program has selected the CMAK (Chase Michael-Anthony Kowalski) Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation as an official charity partner. Founded in remembrance of Chase Kowalski, the CMAK mission inspires community healing through family and children-focused initiatives including the Race4Chase youth triathlon training program.
