The 2019 Disney-themed concert for Families United in Newtown (FUN) was true to its name — “Dazzle” — and it did not disappoint attendees who enjoyed newer hits and classic favorites from many films and cartoons made famous by the renowned imagineer.

Musicals at Richter will kick off its main stage anniversary season this weekend with a production of the uproarious musical hit Monty Python’s Spamalot, based on the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. 

Newtown Historical Society will welcome Leslie Huston, owner of Bee Commerce, and fellow beekeeper Dean Haines as special guests on Sunday, June 23, during an open house at The Matthew Curtiss House.

Town Players of Newtown has scheduled auditions for its first musical, "Is There Life After High School?," which the community theater group is planning to present in the autumn.

It’s been five years since Newtown Cultural Arts Commission launched the classic film series, now known as the Someday Cinema Series, at Edmond Town Hall Theatre. The inaugural season celebrated the 75th anniversary of The Greatest Year in Film: 1939, and on opening day "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Little Princess" were shown. Now celebrating its 80th anniversary, "The Wizard of Oz" will again be offered on the big screen at 45 Main Street on Sunday, June 23, at 1, 4, and 7 pm.

Hark ALS plus friends and family of Newtown resident Laurena McCarthy are planning an evening of comedy at The Palace Danbury to celebrate and support her as she faces advanced stage Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Newtown students will bring assistance to a West Virginia community during a workcamp experience later this month. Meanwhile, one workcamper is collecting shoes to take with him, to further help the community he will be serving.

Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will wrap its 2018-19 season with an “Anything Newtown” competition on Thursday, June 13, beginning at 7:15 pm, at Newtown Senior Center.

Last Sunday, Theatre Arts & Opportunities Foundation’s InsideOut Youth Theater program, from Bridgeport, traveled to Brookfield to see a performance of "Annie Jr." This weekend the group will return to Brookfield, this time to perform its production of "Every Little Bit." Admission is free; donations will benefit the youth theater program.
