The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard is partnering with Custom Fundraising Solutions (CFS) to hold its fourth annual Mattress Fundraiser on June 1, from 10 am to 5 pm, in Newtown High School’s main cafeteria, 12 Berkshire Road.

At least two Newtown artists will be represented in an invitational art show being planned for the first full week of June. An opening reception on May 31 will offer early previews and shopping opportunities for tickets holders.

The Board of Trustees of C.H. Booth Library is planning Mad Hatters II, a fundraiser to benefit C.H. Booth Library. The event will be held at Michael’s at the Grove, 42 Vail Road in Bethel, on Friday, May 31, from 6:30 to 10 pm. The gala will feature a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres, live music, a plated dinner, and opportunities to bid on prizes through live and silent auctions. All proceeds will benefit Newtown's public library.

Newtown Bridge Club is planning its third annual Longest Day fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. This year's event, scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, will again take place at Edmond Town Hall. Organizers have announced the addition of Scrabble games and tournaments for this year's offering.

A new afternoon group is set to launch at C.H. Booth Library at the end of the month. Though similar to a book club, the new group will be different in that participants will read plays aloud — with parts to be given out on the day of each gathering — and then discuss the issues of the play.

The Stray Kats Theatre Company is planning to present the 3rd Annual "Still Crazy After All These Years!” The June 7-9 festival of one-act plays celebrating the lives of today's senior citizens will be offered at Edmond Town Hall.

A traditional community dance is scheduled on Friday, May 31, from 6:30 until 8:30 pm, in The Great Room of Newtown Congregational Church. The main purpose for the dance reflects Ms Campbell’s passion for "Celebrating Community through Traditional Dance and Music."

The Westport Community Band and area middle school musicians collaborated last week on the annual “Play with the Community Band” program. Students from Reed Intermediate School attended multiple rehearsals ahead of the May 10 project culmination: a live performance in Westport for family and friends.

Newtown Historical Society invites the public to visit The Matthew Curtiss House during an open house event planned for May 19 from noon to 4 pm. Guests on Sunday will also be invited to try their hand at quilling, also known as paper filigree.
