Drug Bust

Police report that at about 11 pm on October 30, they stopped a vehicle traveling on Berkshire Road, near Lone Oak Meadows, due to its high speed.

Police said they then called in Monroe police, who provided a dog which performed a drug search inside the vehicle. Police charged a passenger in that vehicle, Marquet Rochelle Humphrey, 21, of Shelton with possession of narcotics because he possessed more than one ounce of marijuana.

Humphrey was released on a written promise to appear in court on November 14.

Asleep At Wheel

Motorist Conor Donnelly, 24, of Newtown was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox SUV southward on Ashford Lane, near Great Hill Road, about 2:20 am on October 29, when Donnelly fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the left side of street and then struck several small trees.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Donnelly for making a restricted turn.

Flagpole Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the Main Street flagpole intersection at about 11:05 am on October 28.

Police said motorist Michelle Hazard, 51, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Cadillac Escalade SUV, stopped on westbound Church Hill Road, after which motorist Christopher Leibold, 28, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima, stopped behind the Cadillac.

The Nissan then rolled forward, striking the rear end of the Cadillac. There were no injuries. Police report they issued Leibold a written warning for following too closely.

Ramp Crash

State police report that motorist Katelyn Reed, 24, of Oxford was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV on a ramp at the Exit 10 interchange of Interstate 84 at about 10:24 pm on October 28, when while negotiating a curve, the SUV spun out of control and struck some flex-beam guardrails.

There were no injuries. Reed received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Arrest Warrant

Police report that on the evening of October 27, they went to the residence of James D. Walsh, 27, of Sandy Hook and served an arrest warrant against him, charging him with evading responsibility and with making a restricted turn.

Walsh's arrest stems from a motor vehicle accident that happened about 1:33 am on September 3 on Swamp Road, near Botsford Hill Road. In that incident, Walsh was driving a 2005 Cadillac Escalade SUV eastward on Swamp Road and then struck a utility pole along the right road shoulder, after which the Cadillac landed in a ditch, getting stuck there. Walsh was not at that accident scene when police arrived to investigate.

Police report that after arrest processing on October 27, they released Walsh on a written promise to appear in court on November 14.

Flagpole DUI

Police report that motorist Willie Hernandez, 21, of Derby, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra westward on Church Hill Road, turned right onto northbound Main Street at about 9 pm on October 27, and then struck a parked unoccupied 2016 Honda CR-V SUV.

There were no injuries. Police investigated and then charged Hernandez with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. After arrest processing, Hernandez was released for a November 7 court appearance.

Toyota Vs Ford

Police report that motorist Lauren Barrett, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Sienna minivan eastward on Wasserman Way about 6:30 pm on October 25, attempted to pass eastbound motorist Steven Hinckley, 59, of Shelton, who was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The Toyota struck the Ford, police said. The accident occurred about 500 feet west of Berkshire Road.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Barrett for passing in a no-passing zone.

Theft From Auto

Police again are urging residents to keep their vehicles locked and to keep any valuables within those vehicles out of plain sight to deter not only the theft of items from within vehicles, but also to deter the theft of vehicles.

Police learned at about 7:37 pm on October 25 that an employee of Caraluzzi's Market at 5 Queen Street, on returning to his vehicle, discovered that someone had entered the unlocked auto and stolen from within it a wallet containing $70, some loose change, a cellphone charger, and an electronics cord.

Anyone with information on the incident, which occurred at the store's employee parking lot on the east side of the building, is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Highway Accident

State police report that at about 7:53 am on October 24, motorist Tyler Fac, 20, of Watertown, who was driving a 2011 GMC Terrain SUV westward on Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet west of Exit 11, struck the rear end of a 2011 Jeep Compass SUV driven by Kristen Miller, 32, of Bethel.

There were no injuries. Fac received an infraction for following too closely.

Mustang Collision

At about 8:53 am on October 24, motorist Tanisha Grasty, 20, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, lost control of the vehicle and spun out, hitting some guardcabling, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Grasty was traveling too fast for conditions.

Off-Ramp Accident

State police said motorist Richard Hamed, 62, of New Milford, who was driving a 1999 International 9100 truck, stopped at the end of eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp at about 3:41 pm on October 24, and was then struck from behind by a 2005 Toyota Scion SC auto driven by Andrea Barreno-Bravo, 24, of Danbury.

There were no injuries. Barreno-Bravo received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Car Vs Sign

Motorist Patrick Baran, 34, of Bristol was driving a 2000 Audi A-4 auto eastward on Interstate 84 at about 8 pm on October 24, when it drove off the right road shoulder and struck a traffic sign, state police said. There were no injuries.

State police charged Baran with failure to have automotive insurance, misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to maintain the travel lane. Baran is scheduled to appear in court on November 15, according to state police.

Botsford Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 286 South Main Street about 10:02 pm on October 24.

In that incident, motorist Richanna Edwards-Marsh, 27, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, was attempting to make a left turn from a driveway at 286 South Main Street to head northward on South Main Street, as motorist Thomas Tracy, 73, of Bridgeport was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Express G-1500 van southward on South Main Street.

The two vehicles then collided. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Edwards-Marsh to Danbury Hospital. Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Edwards-Marsh received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way and for driving without a license, police said.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision occurred on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, on October 24, according to state police.

In that incident, a 2010 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by John Persechino, 25, of Torrington, struck the rear end of a 2011 Ford Transit van driven by Washington Cardenas, 43, of Wallingford, pushing the Ford into the rear end of a 2001 Nissan Altima auto driven by Deepaliben Patel, 23, of Berlin.

Both Patel and Cardenas received ambulance transport to Danbury Hospital for medical evaluations.

Persechino received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Flagpole Intersection

Police report that motorist Holly Locascio, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Subaru Forester SUV, stopped on southbound Main Street and was waiting to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road at about 9:44 am on October 20, when the Subaru was struck from behind by southbound motorist Jodiann Wynter, 30, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra.

There were no injuries. Police issued Wynter an infraction for following too closely.

A police officer is seen investigating a one-car accident that occurred about 2:12 pm on October 30, in which a 2010 Hyundai Elantra sedan squarely struck the Main Street flagpole. Police said motorist Eve Mooney, 58, of Monroe was westbound on Church Hill Road and then attempted to make a left turn to enter southbound Main Street, but struck the 100-foot-tall flagpole that is positioned in the center of the intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street. Ms Mooney was not transported to a hospital, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police said they gave Mooney a written warning for making a restricted turn. (Bee Photo, Gorosko)
