A Good Man With A Good Heart

To the Editor:

There's any number of reasons I can cite to urge you to vote for my running mate, Jeff Capeci, for selectman, most concerning his extensive political and community service experience. Such reasons have been known to me for some time - that's why I asked him to be my running mate more than two years in advance. However, I'd like to share one reason that only became fully apparent to me during the course of this campaign: he's a really good man with a good heart. One example should suffice.

It was the usual incredibly busy Saturday on the eve of the Caucus or Primary, I forget which. We each had a number of get out the vote reminder calls to make before meeting to walk and attend events. One of Jeff's calls was to an elderly couple. After he made it, he called me, concerned. Briefly, he spoke with one of the couple and had reason to be concerned that a mishap had befallen the other partner. He indicated to me that he was going to do a health and safety visit, and he did: diagonally clear across town and nowhere near where we needed to be that afternoon.

That's just one example. I'm also aware of several favors he's performed for neighbors and co-workers, not because he boasted about the same, rather they just came up in ordinary course of conversation. Indeed, at times he's coaxed me into being a better person than I otherwise would have been left to my own devices.

So vote for Jeff. In addition to being well qualified, he's a good man and he'll be a good influence on me.

Will Rodgers, Newtown Selectman and First Selectman Candidate
