DUI Incident

Police report that they observed motorist Manuel Leon, 37, of New Haven traveling eastward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), near its intersection with Old Mill Road, and crossing over the road’s center lines several times at about 2:51 am on September 20, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Leon with driving under the influence, driving without a license, failure to drive to the right, and failure to drive to the right on a curve.

After processing the charges, police released Leon on $125 bail for an October 9 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Five MV Charges

At about 11:09 am on September 19, police stopped motorist Wemerson Oliveira to investigate near 55 Hattertown Road.

Police said that they issued Oliveira violations for misuse of a marker plate, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to have a driver’s license, failure to have a front marker plate, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police said they released Oliveira on $500 bail for an October 3 court appearance.

 

Dispute

Police report that they went to a Bonnie Brae Drive residence about 4:48 pm on September 21 in response to a report of a landlord-tenant dispute there. Bonnie Brae Drive links Brushy Hill Road to Elm Drive.

After investigating, police said they charged tenant Maria Killeen, 45, of 23 Bonnie Brae Drive with disorderly conduct. Police said they released Killeen on a written promise to appear on October 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hawleyville Incident

Police report that at about 9:05 am on September 22, they spotted motorist Christopher Hernandez, 22, of Naugatuck driving northward on Currituck Road near its intersection with Obtuse Road and Hawleyville Road.

Police said that Hernandez did not stop at a stop sign, so they stopped him to investigate. Police charged Hernandez with failure to obey a stop sign and driving with a suspended license.

Hernandez posted $100 bail for an October 5 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Criminal Charges

On the afternoon of September 22, Newtown police learned that Naugatuck police had in their custody Loriann Eisenberg, 46, of Naugatuck, for whom Newtown police held a warrant in connection with an April incident at Ricci’s Salon at 99 South Main Street.

Newtown police transported Eisenberg to Newtown and charged her with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, and second-degree criminal mischief in connection with an incident that occurred on or about April 13. Police had received a report on the morning of April 14 that a burglary had occurred at the business.

At that time, police determined that someone had made a forced entry into the business and stole unspecified items. The value of the items taken was less than $500.

Police said they held Eisenberg on $25,000 bail for a September 24 court arraignment on the charges. At her arraignment, Eisenberg did not enter pleas. A judge lowered the her bail to $10,000. Eisenberg was being held on September 25 at York Correctional Institution in Niantic for an October 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Jeep Rollover

At about 11:18 pm on September 21, motorist Sarah Craig, 16, of 141 Hanover Road was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty SUV westward on Sanford Road, near the Upper Paugussett State Forest, when the Jeep rotated and skidded on the road’s dirt/gravel surface, police said.

The Jeep then struck a stone wall along the right side of the road and rolled over onto its driver’s side, police said.

Craig was not injured. Police said they are investigating the incident.

 

Motorcycle Crash

Police report that motorcyclist Jeffrey Marquis, 47, of 51 Flat Swamp Road was riding a 1992 Harley-Davidson eastward near 190 Walnut Tee Hill Road at about 8:40 pm on September 23, when a deer ran onto the street from the left road shoulder.

Marquis swerved to the right to avoid the deer, but the motorcycle hit some curbing, causing it to crash, police said. The accident scene was near Walnut Tree Hill Road’s intersection with Glen Road.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Marquis to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. The incident is under investigation.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision occurred at the south end of Currituck Road at its intersection with Main Street about 2:49 pm on September 17.

Police said that motorist Kevin Mooney, 25, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2012 Honda Civic sedan southward, stopped at a stop sign on Currituck Road, after which southbound motorist Carol Soracin, 69, of 58 Housatonic Drive, who was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion sedan, stopped behind the Honda. Southbound motorist Lindsay Castner, 20, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant sedan, then struck the rear end of the Ford, pushing the Ford into the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Castner received an infraction for following too closely, according to police.

Ramp Accident

Motorist Harold Fliegelman, 78, of Collegeville, Penn., who was driving a 2004 Toyota in wet conditions on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 1:32 pm on September 18, lost control of the auto, state police said.

The Toyota hit some guardrailing on the left road shoulder and then hit some guardcabling on the right road shoulder, state police said. Neither Fliegelman, nor a passenger, were injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Asleep At Wheel

State police report that at about 2:55 am on September 16, motorist Michael Vecchiarelli, 20, of Woodbury was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox SUV in the right lane of two lanes on eastbound Interstate 84, when he fell asleep at the wheel, lost control and collided with the median guardrail.

Vecchiarelli was not injured. State police said they verbally warned him for failure to drive in the established lane.

Underage Alcohol

Police report that they were on special enforcement duty with the SUDS (Stop Underage Drinking and Sales) project at about 8:30 pm on Saturday, September 22, when they spotted a youth enter the Rooster Wines & Liquors package store at 113 South Main Street (Route 25) and later exit the store carrying some alcohol.

Police said that the 17-year-old Trumbull boy, whom they did not identify due to his age, had used a “false ID” to buy alcohol at the store. Police issued the boy an infraction ticket for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, a violation which carries a $136 fine.

Two Charges

Police said that they stopped motorist Janice Markey, 41, of 59 Riverside Road for driving fast on Riverside Road near Cherry Street on the afternoon of September 24.

After investigating, police charged Markey with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released Markey on $100 bail for an October 9 court appearance.

 

Honda Vs Ford

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 7:24 am on September 18 on South Main Street near Blue Spruce Drive.

Police report that motorist John Blaze, Jr, 62, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Michael Klein, 51, of Bethany Beach, Del., who was driving a 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Klein an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Case

Police report that at about 5:22 pm on September 24, they received a complaint about a motorist’s driving behavior in the Appleblossom Lane area, so they went there.

Police said they found the driver in question and stopped her to investigate. Police report they charged Margaret Parylak, 26, of 14 Old Hawleyville Road with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After she posted $1,000 bail, police released her for an October 10 court appearance.

Moving Violations

Police report that they saw motorist Maria Fregosi, 35, of Bridgewater driving westward on Church Hill Road, near The Boulevard, at about 10:30 am on September 25 while speaking on a handheld cellphone, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they charged her with speaking on a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license. Police said she was released on $100 bail for an October 10 court appearance.

South Main Street

Police said that while on patrol at about 8:50 am on September 25 near 129 South Main Street, they spotted motorist Carlos Alberto Souffront, 22, of Bridgeport driving closely behind another vehicle, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Souffront with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and with driving with a suspended license. He was released on $100 bail for an October 10 court appearance, police said.
