‘Migration’ Features Works By Lydia Viscardi And Thuan Vu

BRIDGEPORT — The Black Rock Art Center is presenting an exhibit entitled “Migration, ” which features the work of two local artists, Lydia Viscardi and Thuan Vu. It will remain on view until May 30.

Ms Viscardi is an instructor of Studio Arts and Art History at the Middle and Upper School levels. Her teaching is enhanced by both her academic fine arts training and by her extensive career in various commercial professions, including interior design, editorial illustration, and scenic art.

Her work with traditional and non-traditional materials is evident in her elegantly crafted assemblages, sculptures, collages, and oil paintings. Combining traditional art media with found objects has led Ms Viscardi to create art with both visual and psychological tension. The exhibition will feature two of her series entitled “Bird Series” and “Relief Landscape.”

Thuan Vu, an assistant professor of art at Southern Connecticut State University, was born in Saigon, Vietnam, in 1973, and settled with his family in New Orleans in 1975. Mr Vu returned to Vietnam for the first time two years ago and has since been researching traditional Vietnamese drawing techniques.

Mr Vu says identity politics remain at the heart of his work. His work explores the many dualities of east vs west, tradition vs modernity, faith vs reality, and how they can lead to a sense of displacement. The artist has recently been painting in a black and white grisaille method to mimic the documentary nature of black and white photography.
