Update for Friday, January 5:

NYA Sports & Fitness, 4 Primrose Street, announces it will have a delayed opening, Friday, January 5, at 10 am, and there will be NO group fitness classes. Kidz Care will be open from 10 am to noon. More information at www.nyasportsfitness.com.

A number of entities are closed today, or will have delayed openings, due to a Nor'easter that is over the region.

Newtown Public Schools are

closed for the day, as are town offices.

C.H. Booth Library is closed for the day due to the weather.

The Board of Education and Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial Commission announced yesterday that meetings planned for tonight were being cancelled.

Newtown Youth & Family Services is closed for the day.

Tonight's Brainstorm Experience with Steve Gross has been postponed, according to an email from The Avielle Foundation. "We are excited to launch this series and will release the new date soon," the notice also stated.

Newtown Congregational Church is closed for the day, and all church activities are cancelled. NCC office staff will be monitoring voicemail and emails from home.

The Ben's Bells Connecticut studio (32 Stony Hill Road, Bethel) is closed for the day. It will be open for regular visiting hours on Saturday, January 6, from 10 am until 6 pm.

Newtown Bridge Club's games are canceled today. Regular play will resume on Tuesday, January 9. (See our calendar page for ongoing listings for that club.)

A reminder from Newtown Parks & Recreation that all activities at the schools and The Garage/teen center are canceled due to the snow. In addition, Parks & Rec activities at NYA Sports & Fitness Center are canceled today.

According to its website, NYA will be closing at noon today. The facility plans to reopen at its regular time, 5:30 am, tomorrow morning.

Tonight's C.H. Booth Library Board of Trustees meeting has been cancelled, according to Chairman Bob Geckle.

FAITH Food Pantry will not be opening tonight. Volunteers plan to be on hand for the next regular time slot: Tuesday, January 9, from 10 am until noon.

Edmond Town Hall will be closing at 3 pm today.
