Local Voices Join Concert Across America
Their voices intertwining in a crystal harmony, David and Francine Wheeler sang "Save You," written by Mr Wheeler. They were joined by area musicians on September 25, during an event at Trinity Episcopal Church. The concertÃÂ was oneÃÂ of more than 350 performances taking place across the country on Sunday asÃÂ part of theÃÂ Concert Across America To End Gun Violence.
Pastor Kathie Adams-Shepherd, rector of the Main Street church, said she had hoped the day would raise awareness.
Mr Wheeler had said he chose one song about helping an individual, "but it's important to help each other and everyone. We hope that cooler, saner heads prevail, it's part of what today is all about."
The Trinity Chorusters firstÃÂ gathered around a piano and sang two pieces to begin the event. Newtown musician Darryl Gregory next reached for his guitar and performed two songs that he wrote for the day.
Between songs, he said, "Love is energy, love is wonderful, love is everything."
Following him was The Old Town Hall Band - Jim Allyn, Rick Brodsky, Howard Bujese, Richard Neal, and Francine Wheeler. Soon thoughts of gun violence faded, replaced with bluegrass sounds and a brief concert including an upbeat rendition of George Harrison's "Here Comes The Sun."
The Reverend Matt Crebbin, senior pastor ofÃÂ Newtown Congregational Church, and Pastor Adams-Shepherd offered closing comments for the afternoon event.
