"Showing Motion in Your Paintings" will be the subject of a watercolor demonstration by Sandra Cointreau at a meeting of SCAN, the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, on Wednesday, July 12, at 7:30 pm. This demonstration will take place at the Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (lower level) at the flagpole. It is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to attend. Admission is free.scanart.org.

Ms Cointreau is largely a self-taught artist. As a civil engineer with many years of research, field work, design, and consulting in more than 60 countries, her constant companion was her sketch book and watercolors.

About a decade ago, she became absorbed with the difficult quest of analyzing how to show motion in her paintings. Researching and trying different techniques over the years has led her to be a Resident Artist in 2015 at Lime Rock's car raceway and to have her paintings shown in their Drivers Lounge in 2016, and now in the Riverwind Gallery in Beacon, N.Y.

Her paintings of motion in race horses have been accepted into the annual open juried shows of the North East Watercolor Society and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. Ms Cointreau is a Signature Member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society.

For SCAN, she will explain the main elements of showing motion as she demonstrates how to incorporate these motion elements into a watercolor demonstration of galloping horses.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs but additional information is available by calling 203-426-6654 or visiting
