WATERBURY – For those horse lovers who want to learn more about makes their horses, the Equine Management Department at Teikyo Post University is offering the chance to brush up on knowledge and horse care through two days of lectures and practical work.

These seminars will be offered on two separate Sundays in July – July 13 (Section 1) and 20 (Section II), and then again on Sunday, August 17 and 24, from 9 am to 4 pm.

Included in the seminars will be evolution, basic structure and anatomy, safe handling, correct grooming, as well as fitting and care of tack. The second section will delve into the principles of watering and feeding, signs of health, emergency care and coping with wounds, environmental issues and pasture maintenance. In each case, the morning session will be spent in the classroom, while the afternoon session will take place in the barn covering the practical aspects of these topics.

While it is relatively easy to find someone to teach you to ride, when you want to learn how to look after a horse, it is not so easy to get the knowledge you need – both theoretical and practical – to enable you to keep your horse in tip-top condition.

These ‘hands-on’ seminars will be held at the TPU Barn at Rivers Edge Farm, (off RT 69) in Bethany, CT. The cost is $100 per section, or $180 for both sections.

For information, call the Equine Management Department at Teikyo Post University - (203) 596-4631 or e-mail CBaker@teikyopost.edu.
