Track Teams Compete In Ocean Breeze Invitational

Members of Newtown High School’s indoor track and field teams participated in the Ocean Breeze Invitational Holiday Festival in Staten Island, NY, on December 30. Results are as follows:

*2 Mile: Emma Bayuk qualified for the South-West Conference championships and Class LL championships with a time of 11:45.34; Sarah Mawdsley qualified for SWC and Class LL with a time of 11:48.93; and Erin Tressler qualified for SWC and Class LL with a time of 11:57.38.

*Pole Vault: Lauren Russo qualified for SWC and Class LL with a vault of 8-foot-6; Jackie Sgobbo also qualified for SWC and Class LL with a vault of 8-foot-6.

*55 Meter Dash: Cormac Roe qualified for SWC with a time of 7.04; Michael Capaldo qualified for SWC with a time of 7.22; and Adam Manes qualified for SWC with a time of 7.23.

*4x200 Meter Relay: The team of Jack Lavelle, Kevin Arther, Roe, and James Carney qualified for SWC and Class LL with a time of 1:39.55.

*4x400: The team of Arther, Joel Duval, Cole Terry, and Carney qualified for SWC and Class LL with a time of 3:40.16 and finished 11th out of 36 teams.

*High Jump: Terry: qualified for SWC and Class LL, and finished tied for seventh with a jump of 5-foot-8.

*Shot-Put: Jack Godfrey qualified for SWC and Class LL, and finished third among 81 boys with a throw of 49-3.25.

*Pole Vault: Dylan Lew qualified for SWC with a vault of 10 feet.

*Long Jump: Manes qualified for SWC with a jump of 17-foot-4; and Connery Mayer qualified for SWC with a jump of 17 feet.
