Town Players of Newtown announces auditions for The Trip To Bountiful, which have been scheduled for Sunday and Monday, September 17-18, from 7 to 9 pm each evening.

Horton Foote's dramatic play tells the tale of Carrie Watts, an aging widow who lives in a cramped apartment in Houston with a daughter-in-law who despises her and a son who dares not take her side. Carrie dreams of returning to the town of Bountiful, where she was raised, one more time before she dies. There, she hopes to reclaim her dignity and a sense of serenity.

One day, while son Ludie is at work and daughter-in-law Jessie Mae is at the drugstore, Carrie makes her escape and travels by bus to Bountiful. She befriends a young woman named Thelma along the way. However, as she draws closer to her destination, Carrie begins to discover that her beloved hometown is no longer as she remembers it.

Brian DeToma of Danbury will direct.

The production calls for six men and three women. If possible, actors should read the play in advance and be ready to read sides from the script. Town Players does not loan out copies of the script. Character descriptions are available at newtownplayers.org.

No appointment is necessary, and all roles are available.

The auditions will take place at The Little Theatre, 18 Orchard Hill Road in Newtown.

Rehearsals will begin in late September, and the production is scheduled to run weekends, November 10-December 2. Curtain will be Friday and Saturday evenings, with one Thursday evening performance and two Sunday matinees.

All questions may be directed to info@newtownplayers.org.

Town Players of Newtown is a community theater, currently in its 82nd season. Additional information is available on the theater's website.
