To the Editor:

I have lived in Fairfield 29 years and just recently moved to the Black Rock area in Bridgeport. I write this letter in support of "my" State Senator Tony Hwang. I have known Tony over 20 years prior to his political career. He has always been a caring and enthusiastic friend. He carried these qualities into politics. In this time of total cynicism and lack of trust in politicians I truly believe Tony stands tall being socially responsible and totally committed to his community and constituents. His approach on state matters such as the 2nd Chance for those incarcerated is practical and realistic. Tony was one of the only state legislators to publicly support reentry agencies while the Department of Corrections was drastically cutting budgets. He realizes that reducing support to reentry programs will only increase the numbers of people returning to prison. For this population, instead of a 2nd Chance this guarantees No Chance of finding work, getting back with families, and any chance of finding a normal life.

He has been known to cross the political aisle and work in a bipartisan manner. In this day and age we must elect officials that want to work together. The State of Connecticut is in terrible shape, fiscally and socially. He is committed to creating jobs and improving the economy, which will be no small feat. He is fiscally responsible and dedicated to government transparency, which is something we have grown not to expect.

Tony has a track record that calls out for re-election. Now more than ever do we need a person like him representing our communities and personal interests, otherwise we will continue to watch the demise of our state.
