Stray Kats Season Finale To Challenge Questions Of Faith, May 6

The Stray Kats Theatre Company, a not-for-profit professional theatre company based at Edmond Town Hall, announces the final offering in its inaugural season: a staged reading on Friday, May 6, of  Christopher Demos-Brown’s Our Lady of Allapattah. The work is for mature audiences.

When an image of a religious icon appears upon the side of a strip mall in Allapattah, two Miami cops — one a devout Pentecostal and the other an atheist — are called upon to investigate. Tempers flare as questions of faith confront matters of fact. It is real? Is it a hoax? Does it matter?

Christopher Demos-Brown is an award winning playwright and a lawyer in Miami. His most recent play, When the Sun Shone Brighter, premiered at Florida Stage in 2010, won the Silver Palm Award for Outstanding New Work, and was a finalist for the National New Play Network’s Smith Prize.

Mr Demos-Brown’s other work includes Wrongful Death, which will premiere at Zoetic Stage in Miami later this year.

Our Lady of Allapattah was his first play. It won the 2006 ARTSport New Works Playwriting Contest. It will have its world premiere at the Caldwell Theatre later this year.

The cast will include Don Striano of Newtown, who originated the role of Keith, and Brian Carter of Westport.

Tickets are $25 and include will include a talk-back with the company, coffee and dessert by Andrea’s Pastry Shop of 5 Queen Street, Newtown, specializing in Italian pastries, cakes, breads and cookies.

Tickets are available at StrayKatsTheatreCompany.org or by calling 203-514-2221. Additional information is also available from Stray Kats Artistic Director Kate Katcher at the phone number above or info@straykatstheatrecompany.org.
