The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Bridgewater artist Tina Underwood painting a still life in oil at its next meeting - Wednesday, April 25, at 1:30 pm - in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

All are welcome, free of charge.

Whether painting still life or landscape, Ms Underwood's vision is the same: a passion for natural realism, the play of light, the beauty of place and things. Working from life in her studio, she strives for a strong composition featuring vessels, flowers, and other objects, and uses fabrics to create a sense of movement. For SCAN, she will demonstrate her method for beginning a painting that quickly establishes the light effect.

Ms Underwood earned her BA in studio art from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. She also studied in Lacoste, France, under the direction of Sarah Lawrence College.

She continued her studies with several artists, including Edward Spaulding DeVoe. She is a member of Oil Painters of America, and her paintings are in private collections throughout the United States.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available at 203-426-6654 or scanart.org.

Tina Underwood was awarded Best in Show at the Watertown Art League Spring 2017 Juried Show for this painting. "Casual" is a 12 by 16 oil on panel by the artist, who will be the guest for the next Society of Creative Arts of Newtown meeting.
