The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has posted state tournament seedings and brackets for softball, baseball, and boys’ lacrosse. Newtown High School’s boys’ lacrosse team will start state playoff action on the road, and the softball and baseball teams will get underway at home. Two of the three games feature matchups with South-West Conference rivals.

Newtown’s schedule is as follows (all game times listed are as of the afternoon on May 29, and are subject to change; visit casciac.org or check nighthawksports.com for updates and to confirm game times and dates):

On the baseball diamond, No. 11 Newtown hosts No. 22 New Milford in the first round, on Monday, June 2, beginning at 3:30 pm. With a win, the Nighthawks would either visit No. 6 Shelton or host No. 27 West Haven in the second round, on June 2, at 3:30 pm. Newtown defeated SWC opponent New Milford 3-2 in their regular-season clash, on the road, in mid-May.

In softball, the sixth-seeded Nighthawks — the SWC champions — will entertain No. 27 Glastonbury in the first round, also on June 1. With a win, the Hawks would host a second-round contest (against the winner of No. 11 Westhill and No, 22 Conard) the next day, also at 4 pm.

It’ll be another rematch for the Newtown and New Milford boys’ lacrosse teams. When they met in the regular campaign, Newtown pulled out a hard-fought 8-7 victory. When they met again in the SWC tourney semifinals, fourth-seeded Newtown upset top-seeded New Milford 13-4, before falling to Joel Barlow in overtime of the championship clash.
