St James Episcopal Danbury To Host Blessing Of

The Animals

DANBURY — St James Episcopal Church will host its annual community Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 2, at 3 pm. The special event will take place in the church’s Memorial Garden, near the statue of St Francis.

Each year at St James, pets and the environment are blessed on the Sunday closest to the feast day (October 4) of St Francis of Assisi, who believed all creatures are his brothers and sisters. St Francis (1181–1223), canonized in 1228, was the founder of the Franciscan religious order and lived a life of poverty and devoutness after renouncing his life of wealth and social status. His love of animals and all nature has inspired artists throughout the years.

This is an opportunity for children, friends, and neighbors to gather together and celebrate this feast day while showing their love for their pets and respect for all of nature. Last year, more than 25 cats, dogs, and other pets joined in the blessing, complete with celebration and refreshments for all.

St James Episcopal Church is at 25 West Street. Parking is available on West Street and around the corner on Terrace Place and in the parking lot behind the church. All are welcome. Call 203-748-3561 for additional information.
