Newtown High School’s boys’ indoor track and field team, not unlike any other, will need points to come from a wide variety of sources in order to be competitive in conference and state championship meets.

Coming off State Large Division championship and runner-up finish in the South-West Conference championships — both in the Jazz category — Newtown High School’s dance team has high hopes for another strong campaign.

The fourth annual GORUCK Sandy Hook Memorial Light Challenge, raising money for the Sandy Hook Promise organization, is an endurance event is organized by GORUCK, a veteran-owned fitness and apparel company. It will be held at Wolfe Park, 285 Cutler's Road in Monroe, on Saturday, December 15, beginning at 10 am.

Newtown High School’s girls’ basketball team withstood a Danbury comeback effort, then pulled away to defeat the Hatters 54-41 at neutral site St Joseph in Trumbull in the season-opener on December 10.

Last season ended with a tremendous run to the Division II State Tournament semifinals and ended with a furious comeback that fell short. Returning members of Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team and their coaches are excited to get back out on the court and — if all goes well — take care of some unfinished business.

Despite having lost half of last year’s State Open qualifiers to graduation and a small roster of 20, Newtown High School’s boys’ swimming and diving team has high hopes for another strong campaign.

There is a new plan in place for a proposed skating rink to be added to the NYA Sports & Fitness complex at Fairfield Hills. Rink developers, as well as NYA representatives, are hopeful of groundbreaking in April and for the rink to be in operation by the end of July.

With three-time South-West Conference champion New Milford having been hit hard by graduation, the wrestling title could be for the taking among several strong squads, Newtown Coach Ron Chivinski believes.

A season after falling just short of qualifying for the Division II state playoffs (with a 7-12-1 record), and following the graduation of a half dozen skaters, Newtown High School’s hockey team will compete at the D-III ranks this winter.
