An elderly Southbury woman died April 4, as a result of injuries she received in a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred about 11:33 am that day on Mt Pleasant Road, officials said.

Dolores Hake, 86, of Southbury, died a few hours after the late morning accident, police said. Ms Hake was a front-seat passenger in a 2016 GMC Terrain SUV, which was driven by Forest Herron, 86, of Southbury, police said.

Police said they learned later in the day that Ms Hake had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital.

Ten Hawleyville volunteer firefighters responded to the collision on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Taunton Lane. The firefighters extricated the male driver from a Buick sedan that had collided with the GMC.

Police said that a 2005 Buick LeSabre sedan driven by Terrelle Anderson, 32, of Bridgeport, was traveling westward on Mt Pleasant Road, as the GMC was traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road. The two vehicles then collided head-on, near the intersection, police said.

Both drivers and Ms Hake were transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

A hospital spokeswoman said April 5 that "no information" was available on Mr Herron and Mr Anderson.

Police closed a section of Mt Pleasant Road for about 90 minutes following the accident. A large amount of automotive fluids had spilled onto the roadway, requiring that Mt Pleasant Road be sanded before traffic could again use the street.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that the Buick crossed over the road's center line and collided with the GMC.

Police said the accident is under investigation and ask anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.
