Just in time for baseball season, Someday Cinema Series will screen Field of Dreams at Edmond Town Hall Theater on Thursday, April 5, at 2 and 7 pm. Tickets are $3, and the matinee will be captioned for the hearing impaired.

Based on the W.P. Kinsella book Shoeless Joe, the 1989 film follows struggling Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), who hears a disembodied voice from the middle of his cornfield whisper, "If you build it, he will come." A vision of a baseball field on his property helps him interpret this message, and eventually, he is driven to make it happen, though it makes no business sense.

Ray's journey to decipher what the voice is telling him leads him to seek out reclusive 60s writer Terence Mann, played to cantankerous perfection by James Earl Jones, who was once the "voice of his generation."

Through the many threads of the story, the baseball field is tied up with Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) and the 1919 Black Sox scandal, "Moonlight" Graham (Burt Lancaster) who left his brief stint in the majors to become a doctor, and Ray's father, John.

"I love classic movies. I have lost count at how many Someday Cinema movies I have seen," says Andy Via, president of Newtown Babe Ruth, who is happy to co-sponsor one of his favorites.

Julie van der Kroef, a Newtown resident and the owner of Drone Photography of CT, is the second sponsor of April's movie.

"The aerial photographs I can capture with my drone remind me of the sweeping vistas in Field of Dreams," says Ms van der Kroef. " I feel like I'm helping Newtown experience life from a new perspective."

The public is invited to view some of Ms van der Kroef's photos, which will be displayed on April 5 in the lobby of the town hall, 45 Main Street.

The Someday Cinema Series will continue on Thursday, May 31, with screenings of The Maltese Falcon (1941). Visit tiny.cc/SomedayCinema2018 for up-to-date details on the entire series.fb.me/somedaycinemaseries or somedaycinemaseries@gmail.com.

Sponsorships are available for several films in the fall. Those interested are invited to contact series coordinator Jen Rogers at
