Soccer Club Summer Camp

 

Gear-up for the upcoming soccer season and gain a competitive edge by registering for the Newtown Soccer Club’s summer soccer camp. If you’re a player entering Grade 6 (C/D Division) through High School (including all travel teams), you can sharpen your soccer skills by attending camp from August 7-11, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Fairfield Hills. Newtown High School varsity soccer coaches, Brian Neumeyer and John Kostelis, will direct the camp. The fee is $80. Checks should be made payable to NSC Summer Camp and mailed to NSC, PO Box 193, Newtown, CT 06470. NSC must receive checks by August 1. Applications are available at the library. Girls High School Soccer

 

Anyone interested in playing soccer with the Newtown High School girls’ soccer team this fall should call Shannon Rouse at 426-8885 or Kate Bouteiller at 426-0577 for further information.

Future Stars Basketball

 

The Future Stars Basketball Academy will be hosting a week-long session for boys and girls from Monday, August 7, through Thursday, August 10, at the Edmond Town Hall gymnasium. Camp is for players aged 5 to 12. Cost is $149. Camp director is former NBA player Frank Oleynick. Call 1-203-267-1673 to register.

Girls High School Swimming

 

Anyone interested in swimming with the Newtown High School girls’ swim team this fall should call Candice Cohen at 270-8172 or Ashley Molden at 426-4816.

MLS Soccer Summer Program

 

The Newtown Soccer Club is sponsoring an MLS Soccer Summer Program from August 7-11, 9 am to 12 noon, for players ages 5 to 12 (cost is $82). Goalkeeper training will run from 5 to 8 pm (cost is $120). All sessions will be at the Newtown Middle School fields. Hosts for coaches will also be needed. High School Prep Camp

 

A high school prep camp, designed for male high school soccer players looking for an edge this fall, will be held Monday, August 21, through Friday, August 25, 9 am to 11 am each day, at the Newtown Middle School. Co-directors Nick Booth and Magnus Nilerud will lead a camp with a strong emphasis on physical conditioning, combined with technical and tactical instruction. Booth was a captain and member of the 1990-1992 championship teams at Southern Connecticut State University and is the former head coach of the University of Bridgeport. Nilerud was a former member of the Swedish Youth National Team, a 1997-98 captain at the University of Bridgeport, and now head coach of the University of Bridgeport women’s soccer team.
