State police report a six-vehicle chain-reaction accident on Interstate 84 involving three SUVs, two sedans, and a pickup truck, resulting in four people being transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The accident occurred during the evening rush period at about 5:21 pm on December 18, on eastbound I-84, west of Exit 11, in the left lane of three lanes. The multivehicle collision occurred as traffic was slowing on the heavily-traveled highway.

State police said a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Yomar Diaz-Hernandez, 33, of Ponchatoula, La., struck a vehicle traveling in front of him, resulting in the sequence of chain-reaction impacts.

Other motorists involved in the crash were Hans Neisser, 66, of Middletown, who was driving a 2006 Kia Sportage; Gerald Bonor, 66, of Eagleville, Mo., who was driving a 2002 Hyundai Elantra; Constantine Giatas, 18, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima; Kristen Tasker, 47, of Auburn, Penn., who was driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee; and Theresa Augustauskas Guertin, 33, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.

Gerald Bonor and Hyundai passenger Katherine Bonor, 90, of Windham, as well as Tasker and Diaz-Hernandez all were transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company members responded to the accident. The incident caused travel delays during the evening rush. State police said they issued Diaz-Hernandez an infraction for following too closely and for driving without a license.
