Seasons End For Soccer And Volleyball Squads

Newtown High School's boys' soccer and girls' volleyball teams saw their seasons end in state tournament play on November 10.

The soccer team, seeded 18th in the Class LL bracket, went on the road and hung close with No. 2 Greenwich before falling 2-1 in second-round action.

James Barden evened the score late in the first half, and the Cardinals struck late in the second half.

On the volleyball court, also in Class LL second-round play, the eighth-seeded and host Nighthawks were competitive in all three games with No. 9 Glastonbury but fell 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-28).

Zoe Beals had nine kills and five digs; Rachel O'Grady had four digs and two aces; Julia Anderson had four kills; Molly McCoy registered five digs, two aces, and 17 assists; Jackie Moccio logged six digs; and Tessa Leon-Gambetta had a trio of digs.
