What you don't know about your own health, or unhealthy situations around your home and family, can be harmful or worse.

But the 2017 Newtown Health and Safety Fair is a good place to discover and begin mitigating health or safety issues in your life, or the life of those you love.

"And the best part is, it's all free," according to co-organizer and Newtown Health District Director Donna Culbert.

Ms Culbert is putting the information-packed and potentially life-saving event together again along with local chiropractor Della Schmidt, longtime Newtown VNA volunteer Mae Schmidle - and a cast of dozens of the area's leading medical, health, and safety practitioners.

Residents are encouraged to pop by the Reed Intermediate School cafetorium on September 16 between 9 am and 1 pm for the all-free four-hour event.

"Folks can take a quick spin around our vendor tables, or make a day out of it by taking advantage of flu shots and numerous health screenings being offered," Ms Culbert said.

Among exhibitors and screening professionals on hand will be Access Health CT, Aqua Environmental Lab, Bethel VNA, a BLAST Tickborne Disease info station, the Newtown Center For Support and Wellness, Children's Adventure Center, and local Commission on Aging, along with representatives from Community Health Associates, sponsor CT Tick Control, Danbury Hospital/Western CT Health Network, Dental Associates of Connecticut, and Dr Della Schmid.

Other exhibitors will include Families Network of Western CT, OSHA, Fisio Physical Therapy & Wellness, LLC, Friends of Newtown Seniors, Garity Associates, Scot L. Goldberg, DC, Joanne's Fitness Studio, Masonicare at Newtown, Newtown Center for Support and Wellness, Newtown Comprehensive Foot Care, William A. Notaro, MD, Newtown Family Dentistry, LLC, Performance Foot & Ankle Specialists, LLC, and the Newtown Lions Club.

Also, Newtown Middle School's School-Based Health Center, Protect Our Pollinators, the Newtown Police Department, Regional YMCA, Newtown Prevention Council, SDSS of Newtown, Inc, Newtown Visiting Nurse Association, Sophia Natural Health Center, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Steve Demasco's Shaolin Studios, Newtown Youth & Family Services, TOPS (Take Off pounds Sensibly), Town of Newtown - Public Works, Voice for Joanie, Inc, Western CT Medical Group - Newtown Primary Care, and the Woodbury Yoga Center.

The event organizers hope to see many local individuals and families stopping by as this year's Health Fair will be sharing the Saturday, September 16, spotlight with Newtown Arts Festival activities, which will be right across the street at Fairfield Hills.
