Intersection Accident

At about 4:06 pm on March 2, motorist David Keckley, 52, of Gulfport, Fla., was driving a 2006 Mini Cooper northward on Hawleyville Road, as motorist David Roberts, 72, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Celica, attempted to enter Hawleyville Road from the intersection of Currituck Road and Obtuse Road, according to police.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Roberts to Danbury Hospital top be treated for injuries, police said. Police said they issued Roberts an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

South Main Crash

At about 6:18 pm on March 2, motorist Hollie Baradit, 23, of Easton, who was driving a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped and was preparing to make a left turn onto Pecks Lane, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by southbound motorist Randall Booth, 45, of Southbury, who was driving a 2016 Dodge Journey SUV, according to police.

Police said Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Baradit to Danbury Hospital. Police said their investigation indicated that Booth was answering a cellphone call when the collision occurred. Police report they issued Booth an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving a motor vehicle while using an handheld electronic device.

Highway Accident

During heavy traffic conditions at about 5:43 pm on March 3, motorist Remigiusz Mroz, 40, of Oxford, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue SUV, stopped and was then struck from behind by motorist Christopher Soares, 30, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2014 Subaru Legacy, state police said.

There were no injuries. Soares received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Church Hill Collision

Motorist Abigail Pearson, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Wrangler SUV with a passenger, was preparing to enter Church Hill Road from the parking lot at Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road at about 10:55 am on March 4, as motorist Wendy Eibsen, 53, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2016 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, was traveling eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles then collided. There were no injuries. Police report they issued Pearson an infraction for failure to grant the right of way and for violating a passenger restriction that affects 16- and 17-year-old drivers.

Evading Responsibility, Restricted Turn 

Police report that motorist William Roberts, 19, of Newtown was driving a 2009 Honda Accord northward on Great Hill Road at about 6:30 am on March 5, when the auto went off the right side of the road and struck a tree, near the intersection of Great Hill Road and Fox Run Lane, after which the Honda drove away from the area. There were no injuries.

Police said that following a brief investigation, they located Roberts and issued him a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility and for making a restricted turn.

I-84 Rear-Ender

State police said that while traveling in heavy traffic about 8 am on March 6, motorist Keisha Powell, 41, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Lexus GS-350 sedan westward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet east of Exit 10, slowed and was then struck from behind by motorist Salvador Ortiz-Martinez, 30, of Hartford, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra.

There were no injuries. State police issued Ortiz-Martinez an infraction on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, driving without a license, and failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

Highway Crash

State police report that motorist Michael Fitzpatrick, 64, of Fairfield was driving a 2003 Toyota Avalon sedan westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 3:02 pm on March 7, when while changing travel lanes, the auto went off the left road shoulder and struck some guardcabling positioned along the median.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Fitzpatrick an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Church Hill Collision

Police report that a two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road at the driveway entrance to Blue Colony Diner about 5:40 pm on March 7.

The collision involved motorist William Papp, 58, of Harwinton, who was driving a 2007 Mazda 6 sedan, and motorist Eric Forde, 32, of South Plainfield, N.J., who was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima, police said.

There were no injuries. Papp received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Dog Training Device Found

On March 9, police received for safekeeping a remote control device that is used for electronic dog training. The device was found at Fairfield Hills. Police said that if the person who lost the device contacts police and adequately describes it, they can claim it.

Hawleyville Accident

Amid snowy conditions about 10:16 am on March 10, motorist Enrique Smith, 38, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Isuzu vehicle southward on Hawleyville Road, near Farrell Road, as motorist Juan Rodriguez, 43, of Bridgeport was driving a 2017 Ford Escape SUV northward there, police report. On the slippery roadway, the Isuzu then struck the Ford in a minor collision, police said. There were no injuries.

Snowy Road Collision

At about 10:19 am on March 10, Jason Spear, 33 of Milford, who was driving a 2010 International truck westward near 173 Mt Pleasant Road, slowed for traffic conditions, after which motorist John Pimentel, 69, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Ford Escape SUV westward behind the International, attempted to stop, but could not do so in the snowy conditions and struck the rear end of the International, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pimentel for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Newtown Village Wires Down

Police report that at about 2:13 pm on March 10, Gary Marinelli, 64, a resident of the Newtown Village mobile home park at 301 South Main Street, was backing up a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck in his driveway there, but inadvertently pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal, resulting in the truck striking and damaging a porch attached to the mobile home. There were no injuries.

Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the incident on a report of wires down.

DUI Incident

Police report that at about 1:53 am on March 11, motorist Ryan Daignault, 22, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1998 Honda Accord westward on Church Hill Road, traveled off the right road shoulder and struck a utility pole near 25 Church Hill Road.

There were no injuries. After investigating, police said they charged Daignault with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Police said they released him on $100 bail for a March 28 court appearance.

Burglary Reported

Police report that a burglary occurred sometime between midnight and 6 am on Saturday, March 11, at Farmhouse Restaurant, 43 South Main Street. Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information about it to contact Officer Stephanie Vegerano at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Jordan Hill Road Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Jordan Hill Road about 2:41 pm on March 11.

Motorist Ronald DeLeo, 57, of Monroe was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward, as motorist Paul Fressola, 35, of Stratford was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck northward there, according to police. As the approaching vehicles passed each other, their left exterior rear-view mirrors made contact with each other, police said. There were no injuries. The accident is under investigation, according to police.

DUI Charge

Police said motorist William Roberts, 19, of Newtown who was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward on Steck Drive about 4:07 am on March 12, drove off the left side of the street and struck two curbside residential mailboxes, as well as some bushes. The truck continued traveling on the street and then became stuck in the snow at Steck Drive's dead end, police said.

Roberts then traveled westward on Steck Drive, but drove off the left side of the street and struck two other mailboxes, police said. The truck then got stuck again, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they charged Roberts with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Roberts was released on $100 bail for a March 28 court appearance, police said.

Five Vehicles In Collisions

State police report an incident involving five vehicles in collisions at Interstate 84's Exit 11 commuter parking lot on Wasserman Way on the afternoon of March 13.

State police said motorist Daryl Schultz, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a Lincoln Town Car sedan, entered the parking lot and then struck a parked, unoccupied Mercedes-Benz C-300 sedan.

After that collision, the Lincoln then struck a Chevrolet Blazer SUV, which in turn struck a Nissan Altima sedan, which in turn struck a Toyota Camry sedan, state police said. The Chevrolet, Nissan, and Toyota all were parked and unoccupied.

After those collisions, Schultz drove away from the parking lot, state police said.

Schultz was later found and charged with making an unsafe start, evading responsibility, and driving with a suspended license, state police said. Schultz posted $1,000 bail and was released for a March 30 court appearance.

SUV vs Pole

Police report that at about 6 pm on March 13, motorist Alexanna Jacobsen, 20, of Newtown who was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV eastward on Barnabas Road, drove off the roadway and struck a utility police located near the intersection of Barnabas Road and Tunnel Road.

The impact caused the utility pole to crack, requiring that it be immediately replaced by a repair crew, according to police. There were no injuries.

Police report they issued Jacobsen an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Tarpaulin On Highway

State police report that motorist Sally Herlihy, 58, of Southbury was driving a 2011 Ford Escape SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, in the area between the Exit 11 off-ramp and on-ramp, at about 6:13 pm on March 16, when the SUV struck a rolled tarpaulin that was lying on the roadway. There were no injuries.

State police said they did not lodge charges because the driver was not at fault in the incident.

Accident At Flagpole

At about 4:20 pm on March 16, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Brian McCambley, 39, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2015 Honda CR-V SUV southward on Main Street, stopped in traffic which was waiting for a pedestrian who was crossing Main Street in a crosswalk, after which the Honda was struck from behind by southbound motorist Chandresh Gandhi, 60, of Watertown, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Highlander SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Gandhi for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Flagpole Intersection Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street about 4:15 pm on March 18.

Motorist Marcia Chaloux, 52, of Newtown was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala sedan northward on Main Street, as motorist Christopher Naber, 27, of Easton, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta westward on Church Hill Road, police said. The Volkswagen then attempted to make a right turn to enter northbound Main Street, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Naber violations for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Hawleyville Incident

Police said they stopped motorist Thiago Oliveira, 20, of Danbury at the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84 in Hawleyville about 11:30 pm on March 18, because the rear marker plate on the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta that Oliveira was driving was obscured. After investigating, police issued Oliveira a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license. Also, police said they verbally warned Oliveira for failure to keep a rear marker plate clear and for failure to have a front marker plate.

Additionally, police learned that there was an active arrest warrant pending against Oliveira in connection with another matter, after which they charged him with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Oliveira was released from custody and he is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury to answer the charges, police said.

Burglary/Larceny

Police said they learned about 7 am on March 22, that a burglary/larceny had occurred sometime during the previous overnight period at a building at 286 South Main Street in Botsford that holds Buzz's Shell gas station and the Cheese Bread Factory fast food eatery.

The burglar or burglars gained entry into the building through windows, police said. Losses in the incident include about $250 in cash and about $750 worth of cigarettes, police said.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contract them at 203-426-5841.

Police report a two-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road (Route 34), just east of its intersection with Tanglewood Lane, about 2:47 pm on March 17. Motorist Catherine Iaccarino, 67, of West Haven was driving a 2003 Toyota RAV-4 SUV eastward, as motorist Michael Preston, 60, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300 sedan westward there, police said. The Chrysler then attempted to make left turn to enter a residential driveway, but in doing so, the Chrysler drove in front of the approaching Toyota, resulting in a collision, police said. Iaccarino and a Toyota passenger were checked at the scene by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, but both people refused medical transport, police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company firefighters responded to the incident, Police said they gave Preston a written warning for failure to grant the right of way when making a left turn.
