Failure To Pay

Police report that after learning they held a warrant for his arrest, Gregory Cinicolo, 62, of Newtown came the police station about 7:45 pm on June 19 and was charged with five individual counts of failure to pay weekly wages ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.

In effect, the warrant concerns the non-payment of between $5,000 and $10,000 in wages to employees. Police said they aided the state Department of Labor in serving the warrant and making the arrest. Cinicolo was released on a written promise to appear in court on July 5.

Threatening

Police report they received a call about 6:35 pm on June 18 from a Sandy Hook address informing them that a person had made multiple threats against the life of the complainant and was following the complainant.

Police responded to investigate, after which they charged Anthony Diorio, 31, of Wolcott, with first-degree threatening, second-degree harassment, and second-degree stalking. Diorio posted $100,000 bail and was released from custody for a July 5 court arraignment on the charges.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a call reporting a suspicious vehicle about 4:50 am on June 16, after which they responded and found that a one-car motor vehicle accident had occurred on Scudder Road, near Cobblestone Lane.

After investigating, police charged motorist James Rouse, 31, of Riverside, Calif., with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Following arrest processing, police released Rouse on $500 bail for a June 29 court appearance.

Botsford Accident

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 11:26 am on June 16.

Police report that the collision involved motorist Scott Lapke, 53, of Southbury, who was driving a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck, and motorist Bertilo Rivera, 40, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

There were no injuries. Lapke received a verbal warning for passing on the right, and Rivera received a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license, according to police.

Drug Charges

Police report they received a call about 12:17 pm on June 16 informing them that there was an unconscious person inside a parked vehicle at 1 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook Center, so they responded to investigate the matter.

Police found the vehicle in question in which Eric Serowik, 32, of Fairfield, was sleeping. After investigating, police charged Serowik with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. After arrest processing, police released Serowik on $250 bail for a June 28 court appearance.

Exit 11 Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on the wide Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84 at about 8:44 am on June 15. In that incident, motorist Melinda Birch, 50, of Newtown, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, changed travel lanes and struck motorist John Dixon, 56, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan. There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Birch for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Three Charges

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Mary Kelly, 26, of Newtown, turned herself over to police at the police station about 1:30 pm on June 15 and was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to renew a vehicular registration, and failure to have automotive insurance, police said.

Police said the three charges stem from a one-vehicle accident that occurred early on the morning of December 31, 2017, on Dinglebrook Lane. On June 15, police released Kelly on a written promise to appear on June 28 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Highway Collision

Motorist Robert Greene, 28, of Oxford, was driving a 2015 Toyota RAV-4 SUV eastward on Interstate 84 at about 4:57 pm on June 15 when he stopped for some halted traffic, after which eastbound motorist Susan Harmon, 72, of Virginia, who was driving a 2015 Toyota vehicle, struck the rear end of the RAV-4, state police said.

Greene received minor injuries and refused medical attention. Harmon received an infraction for following too closely.

Interstate Impact

At about 5:05 pm on June 15, a 2009 Subaru Forester SUV driven westward on Interstate 84 by Robert Pagniello, 56, of Danbury, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by a westbound 2010 Honda Civic driven by Christopher Hillman, 29, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Hillman received an infraction for following too closely,

Audi Into Woods

State police said motorist Anthony Lapointe, 19, of Danbury, was driving a 2013 Audi A-5 Quattro Premium Plus sedan westward on Interstate 84 at about 9:08 pm on June 15, when he attempted to get off the highway at the Exit 9 off-ramp, but then veered off the roadway, drove through some guard cabling, and then traveled on a steep embankment, landing in a heavily wooded area that lies between I-84 and Barnabas Road.

There were no injuries. State police issued Lapointe an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Sandy Hook MVA

Police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Berkshire Road, just east of its its intersection with Wasserman Way, about 7:45 am on June 14.

In that incident, motorist Lautaro Alvarez, 46, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Ford F-550 truck, struck a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV driven by Jeanie Yetkofsky, 46, of Sandy Hook. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Alvarez for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Speeding

State police said motorist Keishla Gonzalez-Nunez, 26, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, at about 6:32 am on June 13, told them that a tire blew out on the auto, after which she lost control, spun around, and then damaged about 80 feet of guard cabling. There were no injuries. State police said that Gonzalez-Nunez was speeding.

Vehicles Collide

Police report a three-vehicle collision near 75 Mount Pleasant Road at about 7:12 am on June 13. In that incident, all three vehicles were traveling northward on Mount Pleasant Road.

Motorist Scott Bussom, 40, of Southbury, who was driving a 2017 Toyota Corolla sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Marcie Albanesii, 55, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Mazda CX-5 SUV, stopped behind the Toyota, police said. Motorist Fred Kelley, 54, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 GMC Sierra pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Mazda, pushing the Mazda into the rear end of the Toyota.

There were no injuries. Police report that Kelley failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sugar Street 

About 2:18 pm on June 8, motorist John Pratt, 64, of Newtown, who had been driving a 2004 Volvo S-60 sedan westward on Sugar Street, stopped and was preparing to make a left turn into the driveway at the Meadowbrook Terrace Mobile Home Park, police said.

Westbound motorist Kimberly Stendahl, 58, of Newtown who was driving a 2011 Lexus RX-350 SUV, then drove over the crest of a hill and struck the rear end of the Volvo, according to police. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance transported Pratt and Volvo passenger Charles L. Cabral, Jr, 56, of Newtown to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Stendahl received an infraction for following too closely.

Three Vehicles

About 4:20 pm on June 8, motorist Anna Diaz, 35, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Ford Flex SUV southward near 43 Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which southbound motorist Rosemary Rioux, 70, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2018 Subaru Outback station wagon, stopped behind the Ford, police said.

Southbound motorist Ryan Mangino, 34, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, struck the rear end of the Subaru, pushing the Subaru into the rear end of the Ford. There were no injuries.

Mangino received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Volvo Crash

Police report they responded to a one-vehicle accident on Old Hawleyville Road, near the Brookfield town line, at about 8:48 pm on June 1.

Police said motorist Patricia Scappatura, 71, of Newtown, who was driving a 2017 Volvo XC-60 SUV eastward on Old Hawleyville Road, told them that a driver in a blue vehicle had struck the Volvo on its left side as the blue vehicle attempted to pass the Volvo on the left, resulting in the Volvo traveling off the roadway. Scappatura was extricated from the auto by Hawleyville volunteer firefighters.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Scappatura to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police verbally warned Scappaturra for making a restricted turn.

Police report that a two-vehicle accident involving a sedan and a motorcycle occurred about 11 am on June 17 near 80 Church Hill Road. Information on the identities of those involved in the accident was not available as of June 21, but police did provide a general description of what occurred. A motorcyclist was traveling westward on Church Hill Road. At that time, a sedan was exiting a driveway. The motorcycle hit the side of the sedan. The motorcyclist was then transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company firefighters responded to the accident. The driver of the sedan received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.
