At about 8:45 pm on January 21, motorist Charles Popp, 64, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck southward near a commercial driveway at 151 South Main Street, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Debra Ann Mennona, 21, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Ford Focus, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Mennona for following too closely.

Alcohol Charge, Additional Charges

Police said that at about 3:45 am on January 20, they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident that had occurred on Berkshire Road, south of its intersection with Tanglewood Lane.

On arriving at the scene, police said they found a 2009 Volvo XC-70 auto positioned right-side up, but with heavy damage to the entire vehicle. Police said that the Volvo had rolled over and then landed on its wheels along the southbound lane of Berkshire Road.

Police report that motorist Christian Morlock, 18, of Sandy Hook was found outside the Volvo and was uninjured.

After investigating, police charged Morlock with operation of a motor vehicle by a minor with an elevated blood alcohol level, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to carry a driver's license.

After processing the charges, police released Morlock on $100 bail for a February 3 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Failure To Appear

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Mark Kuhn, 55, of 6 Evergreen Road, went to the police station on the afternoon of January 20 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, police said.

The charge stems from a November 2016 motor vehicle incident in Trumbull. After processing the charge, police released Kuhn on $500 bail for a February 2 appearance in state Superior Court in Bridgeport.

DUI Arrest

Police report they received a call about 11:33 pm on January 22, informing them that a dispute had occurred at Cover Two Sports Cafe at 100 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, so they went there to investigate.

Cafe patrons told police that the man who started the dispute was attempting to drive away from the bar's parking lot, police said.

Police report they stopped the vehicle in question and determined that the driver had started the dispute. Police said they charged motorist Ryan Bunt, 37, of Southbury with driving under the influence and with second-degree breach of peace.

After processing the case, police released Bunt on $500 bail for a February 7 court appearance.

Slippery Roadway

Police report that a one-vehicle accident occurred on a sweeping curve on Route 302 near its intersection with Hattertown Road at about 6:48 pm on January 23 amid slippery road conditions.

Police said motorist Jose Braz, 71, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Route 302, when while negotiating a downhill curve to the left, the vehicle went out of control and struck a curb along the right road shoulder, causing the Toyota to roll over.

Neither Braz nor a child passenger were injured. Police report they issued Braz an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slippery Road

About 7:23 pm on January 23, motorist Denise Williams, 50, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Kia Optima sedan northward and downhill on a curve on Bradley Lane, near Grace Moore Road, encountered icy road conditions, after which the vehicle slid off the opposite side of the street and struck a large rock, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Failure To Respond

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Victor Ramirez, 23, of Bridgeport went to the police station on the morning of January 24 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police said.

Police said that in 2014, police charged Ramirez with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, but Ramirez did not either pay a fine or challenge that charge in court, so police received a warrant for his arrest on an additional charge of failure to respond to an infraction.

After posting $150 bail, police released Ramirez for a February 14 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Intersection Crash

Police said that at about 6:09 pm on January 24, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hawleyville Road.

The collision involved motorist Hannah Fischetto, 24, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Honda Accord, and motorist Rebecca Howard, 49, of Newtown, who was driving a 2007 Ford Explorer SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Fischetto for failure to grant the right of way.

These two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision about 2:44 pm on January 23 on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Thunder Ridge Road. Police report that motorist Keno Fleming, 33, of Dayton, Ohio, was driving a 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Hans Barth, 44, of Newtown was driving a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan westward there. The Chrysler crossed into the opposite lane and the driver of the Dodge turned to the right to avoid a crash, but the two vehicles collided head-on, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Barth to Danbury Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company firefighters and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance personnel responded to the incident. The accident caused travel delays in the area. Police said they issued Fleming an infraction for failure to drive to the right. (Bee Photo, Hicks)
