DUI Incident

Police said they received a report that a gray 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser SUV was being driven erratically by a motorist in a parking lot at Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road at about 2:18 pm on April 22, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they investigated and then charged motorist Paula King, 52, of 23 Surrey Trail with driving under the influence.

After processing, police released King on $250 bail for arraignment on May 6 in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

Police said they served an arrest warrant at about 3:15 am on April 23 at the Danbury police station, charging Andres Cortes, 20, of Danbury with fourth-degree larceny by embezzlement and with conspiracy.

Police said they received a complaint on January 7 about a theft, and investigated, resulting in the issuance of a court warrant and the arrest.

After processing, police released Cortes on $1,500 bail for a May 7 court appearance.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 4:50 pm on April 22 near 76 South Main Street, according to police.

Police said motorist Evelyn Santella, 38, of 18 Whippoorwill Hill Road, who was diving a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SUV northward, stopped for some stopped traffic and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Nicholas Scalzo, 17, of 175 Mt Pleasant Road.

There were no injuries. Scalzo received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Intersection Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 about 9:20 pm on April 16.

The collision involved motorist John Wilcox, 53, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, and motorist Kimberleighan Davis, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 2014 Jeep Patriot SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Wilcox an infraction for failure to obey traffic signs and markings, police report.

Shelton Woman

Police said motorist Mary Dymond, 38, of Shelton was driving a 2009 Mazda 3 sedan near 152 South Main Street at about 12:14 pm on April 18, when the auto went off the right road shoulder and struck a curbside residential mailbox.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Dymond for making a restricted turn.

DUI Arrest

At about 10:20 pm on April 24, police received a report that a person was suspiciously standing next to a parked vehicle alongside Wasserman Way, near its intersection with Wildlife Road, so they went there to investigate.

Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Angela Elliot, 62, of Danbury with driving under the influence.

After processing the case, police released Elliot on $500 bail for a May 4 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate 84

Motorist Helen Centeno, 51, of West Hartford was riving a 2006 Volkswagen New Beetle sedan eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 10:27 pm on April 24, when the Volkswagen was struck from behind by motorist Tony Mucciacciaro, 41, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, state police said.

There were no injuries. Mucciacciaro received an in infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Low-Speed Pursuit

State police said that they and Danbury police and were involved in a low-speed pursuit of a Hartford man on eastbound Interstate 84 between Exits 9 and 10 at about 11:30 am pm April 21.

State police said that they attempted to stop motorist Erick Ortiz-Aguayo, 31, who was driving a 2005 Acura RL sedan.

Eventually, Ortiz-Aguayo was stopped on the highway median, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said their charges would include reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and failure to drive in the established lane.

Danbury police lodged charges including sale of illegal drugs, possession of narcotics, tampering with physical evidence, driving under suspension, and engaging police in pursuit. At his arraignment on April 22, Ortiz- Aguayo pleaded not guilty to the charges filed by Danbury police.

Ortiz-Aguayo is scheduled to return to Danbury Superior Court on May 13. He was being held on $100,000 bail on April 27.

Van Vs SUV

State police report an accident involving a SUV and a van on eastbound Interstate 84 between the Exit 11 interchange’s off-ramp and on-ramp at about 4:44 pm on April 21.

Amid heavy traffic, motorist Emily Woodrum, 28, of Webb City, Mo., who was driving a 2012 Nissan NV-2500 van, failed to slow for traffic and then struck the rear end of a 2010 Dodge Journey SUV driven by motorist Anna Farina, 51, of Southbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Woodrum received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Ramp Collision

State police report a two-vehicle collision at the end of Interstate 84’s westbound Exit 9 off-ramp at about 12:14 pm on April 21.

Motorist Jason Galassi, 36, of Stratford, who was driving a 2008 Acura TSX auto, stopped at the end of the ramp and was then struck from behind by motorist Paul Morgan, 37, of Lawrenceville, N.J., who was driving a 2011 Kia Optima sedan, state police said.

Galassi was treated for minor injuries at the accident scene by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, according to state police. Morgan received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Highway Crash

During heavy stop-and-go traffic at about 4 pm on April 20, motorist Brett Mitchell, 27, of New Milford, who was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta sedan westward on Interstate 84, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Kyle Stauffer, 18, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan, state police said.

Mitchell reported pain, but refused medical attention, state police said. Stauffer received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

I-84 Collision

At about 7:18 am on April 20, Kristina Kloter, 38, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Volvo VNM truck westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, attempted to merge into another lane, but the Volvo’s left exterior rear-view mirror struck the right exterior rear-view mirror of a 2012 Freightliner CA-12 truck driven by Madison Grounds, 70, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Kloter for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Warrant

Police said that on the morning of April 27, they executed a warrant against Deirdre MacCaskie, 21, of Danbury at Danbury Superior Court, charging her with one count of theft of a credit card, two counts of illegal use of another person’s credit card, and one count each of fifth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.

The charges stem from an August 2014 incident in which MacCaskie allegedly used her ex-boyfriend’s credit card without his permission, police said. MacCaskie was arraigned in court April 27 on the charges.

On April 28, MacCaskie was being held on more than $12,000 bail overall at York Correctional Institution in Niantic on pending charges in multiple criminal cases.

Park Vandalism

Police are investigating two cases of vandalism at Dickinson Park at 50 Elm Drive.

Police said that on Sunday, April 19, and then again on Sunday, April 26, someone forcibly removed sinks from an interior wall in the women’s restroom. Both incidents occurred sometime between 7 am and 3:30 pm on those days, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the criminal mischief to contact them at the police station at 203 426-5841.

Neighborhood Vandalism

On April 26, police responded to the Yogananda Street area in Sandy Hook to investigate multiple cases of vandalism. Yogananda Street is a long residential road that links Osborne Hill Road to Charter Ridge Road.

Police said they found 15 separate incidents of vandalism involving curbside residential mailboxes, mailbox posts, and driveway light posts. In the 15 incidents, damage involved the mailboxes being knocked off their posts, as well as mailbox posts and light posts being removed from their footings and then being thrown to the ground.

Overall damage is estimated at $2,000. Police ask anyone with information on the criminal mischief incidents to contact them at the police station.

Jewelry Found

Police report that on April 25, a person found a box containing three pieces of jewelry on Parmalee Hill Road, near its intersection with Daniels Hill Road. The owner may claim the items at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Larceny Case

Police report they received a complaint at about 9:25 pm on April 28 concerning the theft of items from a residential property, so they investigated.

Police said that following their probe, they charged Matthew Frost, 19, of 30 Brookwood Drive with third-degree larceny for allegedly stealing approximately $4,700 worth of tools, including an electrical generator, from that address.

The tools have been recovered, police said. Police said they held Frost on $5,000 bail for an April 29 arraignment on the felony charge in Danbury Superior Court.

Town police, members of the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded about 8:30 pm on April 28 to a report of a one-car rollover accident that occurred at a retail center at 23 Barnabas Road, near Hawleyville Road. The passenger vehicle that an unidentified female motorist was driving landed in a stormwater control basin on the site. There were no injuries.
