Interstate DUI

State police report that while on patrol about 3:35 am on April 23, they spotted a motorist traveling on Interstate 84 whom they decided to stop for an investigation.

State police said they charged motorist Sinethemba Ngcobo, 27, of Waterbury with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

After arrest processing, state police released Ngcobo on $500 bail for a May 9 court appearance on the charges.

Ford Vs Ford

Motorist Heidi Pedwano, 36, of Newtown, who was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion auto on South Main Street, near Sand Hill Plaza, at about 10:13 am on April 20, was manipulating the vehicle's turn signals and did not notice that a 2002 Ford Explorer SUV driven by James Ferrera, 34, of Newtown had stopped on the roadway in front of the Fusion, resulting in the Fusion striking the rear end of the Explorer, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Pedwano an infraction for distracted driving.

Hawleyville Road

State police report that at about 1:37 pm on April 20, motorist Gerard Lamoureux, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang northward on Hawleyville Road (Route 25), near the Exit 9 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, fell asleep at the wheel and then drove into a state traffic sign.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Lamoureux to Danbury Hospital for treatment of possible injuries. Lamoureux failed to drive in the proper lane, according to state police.

Mazda Vs Acura

Police report that at about 9:37 am on April 19, motorist Jonathan Wheeler, 55, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Acura MDX SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near Pole Bridge Road, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Brian Crowley, 28, of Shelton, who was driving a 2015 Mazda 6 sedan.

There were no injuries. Crowley received a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Wet Conditions

Amid wet road conditions at about 2:07 pm on April 19, motorist Richard Keever, 71, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2012 GMC Savana van westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Pocono Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn to enter a commercial driveway, police said.

Westbound motorist Kimberley Burns, 50, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler SUV, attempted to stop, but slid on the wet pavement and struck the rear end of the GMC.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated Keever at the scene, but made no transport. Police verbally warned Burns for traveling too fast for conditions.

Highway Crash

At about 5:21 pm on April 18, motorist Samantha Silva, 24, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze auto eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind a 2010 Subaru Legacy sedan driven by Michael Lutz, 20, of Seymour, state police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Silva to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Lutz received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Nissan Hits Dodge

On eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, at about 4:26 pm on April 18, motorist David Seften, 53, of Torrington, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Olivia Smith, 25, of Danbury, who was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima auto, state police said.

There were no injuries. Smith received an infraction for following too closely.

South Main Street

A two-car collision occurred on South Main Street, near its intersection with Mile Hill Road, about 4:39 pm on April 17, police report.

Northbound motorist Lilia Sequeira, 59, of Danbury, who was driving a 2014 Ford Focus compact car, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Sarah Suckow, 20, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Matrix compact hatchback. There were no injuries.

Police issued Suckow an infraction for following too closely.

Shoplifting

Police report that at about 6:25 pm on April 16, they received a call from the manager of Caraluzzi's Newtown Market at 5 Queen Street informing them that there was a theft-in-progress at the food store, so police responded.

Police said that on arriving, they found that Robin Krakower, 60, of Newtown was in the custody of the store's loss prevention staff. After investigating, police charged Krakower with sixth-degree larceny in connection with alleged shoplifting.

Police released Krakower on a written promise to appear on May 1 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Police and Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters work at the scene of a two-vehicle accident that occcurred at noon on April 19 on Berkshire Road (Route 34), just west of its intersection with Pole Bridge Road. Police report that eastbound motorist Cathi Karpus, 51, of Newtown, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox SUV, attempted to make a left turn to enter a private driveway, as motorist Raj Bansal, 68, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2016 Toyota Prius westward. The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Karpus an infraction for a moving violation.
