OXFORD – The dog days of September are upon us.

Well, the Dog Days of Oxford are, at any rate. On Saturday, September 22, the first day of fall, the annual Dog Days of Oxford event will be held at Quaker Farms School in Oxford from 10 am to 4 pm (rain date is Sunday, September 23).

Gates open at 9 am. Coffee and pastries will be available.

It will be a day of dog training demonstrations, dog contests, agility demonstrations, frisbee demonstrations and visits with many, many adoptable dogs. A $3 donation will be accepted from adults while children under 12 are free.

The event is sponsored by the Oxford Dog Pound Committee. For further information, call 1-203-888-2589 or 1-203-262-1350.

Meanwhile, the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will be holding its Fall Sale on Friday and Saturday, September 14 and 15, 10 am to 3 pm, at Hatters Park in Danbury. There will be estate sale items, baked goods and a lunch counter. For further information, or if you wish to donate items, call DAWS at 798-5816.
