This rags-to-riches tale is based on the life story of Phiona (Nalwanga), an impoverished 10-year-old Ugandan girl whose life changes when she meets Robert Katende (Oyelowo), a missionary who teaches children how to play chess. Under his guidance Phiona becomes a top player. Her success in local competitions and tournaments leads to international stardom, opening the door to a bright future. This film, released in September, is Disney storytelling at its best.
