New Music Ensemble To Debut Works For Arts Festival Event

The New England New Music Ensemble (NENME) is scheduled to perform at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street, on Friday, September 23, at 7 pm. its website, "both unique and daring original compositions" along with songs not normally associated with chamber music (think ELO, Genesis, the Beatles and even Looney Tunes melodies).newtownartsfestival.com.

The concert is part of the 2016 Newtown Arts Festival series of events. Admission is free, but do-nations will be accepted and forwarded to the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) Scholarship Fund.

The group is planning to perform an entirely new program than what was performed for the 2015 Newtown Arts Festival.

NENME's members are Gregg Baimel, on clarinet and saxophones; Emily Boyer, horn; Phil Crevier, piano; Kristen Provist Switzer, cello and bass; Scott A. Provost Switzer, bassoon and contrabassoon; and Robert Rabinowitz, flute and saxophones.

In addition to being part of the ensemble, most NENME's members each have roles within the town. Mr Baimel is a former Cub Scout leader for Middle Gate and Head O'Meadow Schools. Mr Crevier is the organist at Newtown Congregational Church (NCC).

Ms Provost Switzer was recently hired as the minister of youth and mission at NCC, and also serves on Newtown's Board of Ethics. Mr Provost Switzer is a member of NCAC.

Mr Rabinowitz is the secretary for NCAC, is in his fifth year as entertainment director for Newtown Arts Festival, and a director of the former HealingNewtown.

The New England New Music Ensemble will perform on September 23 as part of the 2016 Newtown Arts Festival events. Donations will be forwarded to the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission Scholarship Fund.
