A 47-year-old man was listed as a patient in serious condition in Danbury Hospital on Thursday morning, following a motorcycle accident that occurred Tuesday evening on Berkshire Road (Route 34) in Sandy Hook.

Police said that motorcyclist John Cain was riding a Harley-Davidson eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Jordan Hill Road, just after 7 pm, when the vehicle hit some guardrailing and Cain was ejected from the motorcycle, landing off the eastbound road shoulder.

Police provided Sandy Hook and New Haven addresses for Cain.

Police said Cain received upper-body injuries and was transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for treatment. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company responded to the incident.

Following the accident, police closed a section of Berkshire Road for several hours to investigate the crash. Detours were used to divert traffic.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the accident to contact investigating Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station at 203-426-5841.
