Model Yacht Club Program Planned

On Saturday, April 14, from noon to 4 pm, members of Housatonic Model Yacht Club will display radio control sailboats at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

These “mini yachts” were built by members and are sailed in competition on Thursday evenings and Sundays, mid-April through mid-October, at Hop Brook Lake in Middlebury.

The four classes that are used in competition along with models from other classes that skippers have in their fleets will all be displayed. Members of the club will be on hand to answer questions about the club and its activities. Housatonic Model Yacht Club is AMYA Club 117, Region 1, based in Middlebury.

Model yachting is a fun sport and, say members, compared to “real boat sailing” is much more convenient and less expensive. Radio control sailboats can be put into the back of most cars. Some boats are small enough to sail in a swimming pool.

Registration is not needed for this program. Residents of all ages are invited to stop in any time during the afternoon.

For additional information call the library at 203-426-4533 or visit sailHMYC.com.
