To kickoff the C.H. Booth Library's annual summer reading program, magician Scott Jameson entertained children ages 4 and up with an hour of magic, music, and juggling on June 27.The Time Machine."For more information about Magician Scott Jameson, visit scottjameson.com or e-mail info@scottjameson.com.

He started off the show by fiddling with the dial on the large radio he brought, occasionally stopping on silly songs - like a tune reminiscent of the Meow Mix jingle - that made the children giggle. When he was ready, he wrapped the radio in a large blue sheet that he pulled up to reveal it had disappeared.

Amazed, the children sitting in the audience let out oohs and aahs and were mystified by where the radio could have gone.

Mr Jameson also showed off his juggling skills by building up from one, to two, to three basketballs that he controlled while they through the air. Afterward, a young girl in the crowd exclaimed, "Wow, that was cool!"

Throughout the magic show, Mr Jameson called upon children from the audience to be his assistant, including 8-year-old Brynn Lozer. Brynn was in charge of helping Mr Jameson make a plastic egg disappear from a small velvet bag. She even turned the bag inside out at the end of the trick to affirm there was no egg in sight.

Another magician's helper was 8-year-old Hailey Gilman, who helped with a mind reading trick. First, she was asked to pull a card from a large deck that had images of music notes, and she was told not show anyone what she had selected.

While holding the card close to her body, Mr Jameson had to read her mind to guess the card she had chosen. When they revealed their cards at the same time - he was wrong.

His mistake, however, was not the end of the surprise. He touched the paper he had drawn the incorrect music note on, and it slowly transformed into the card Hailey had chosen. Hailey's jaw dropped at seeing the change happen right before her eyes.

Mr Jameson even let Hailey keep the paper he had drawn on as a souvenir. While sitting back in the crowd, she traced her fingers over the image, astounded by how he created it.

Other tricks that Mr Jameson performed included transforming a flame into a red scarf, interlocking and unlocking three metal rings, creating knots in three scarves without touching them in a clear plastic tube, and controlling water to not splash out from a bottle when uncapped and upside down - all of which were met with squeals of delight from children.

Before his final trick, he told the audience why libraries were important for getting him started in practicing magic.

"This summer's reading theme is Libraries Rock, and libraries rock for me because I saw my very first magic show at a library when I was about 7 years old," Mr Jameson said.

He was enthralled with magic and began checking out books from the library to learn how to juggle and do different magic tricks.

Today, he said, "I also use libraries as a source of inspiration. This next trick is inspired by a book titled

He explained that just like the scientist in the book, who goes into the future than returns back home to see nothing has changed, he got the idea to alter something, then go back and be able to undo everything.

The bowl of water he had on a table acted as his time machine. First, he dyed the water in the bowl a murky black that made it difficult to see through. Next, he proceeded to pour red, yellow, and blue powder into the bowl one color at a time and swirl it all around. Then, as if going back in time, he was able to reach into the water and individually remove - one by one - the entire amount of blue, yellow, and red sand.

To top it off, he was also able to take out all the dark dye in the water and turn it back to being crystal clear.

Whether or not the tricks could be explained, there was no mystery that the show was enjoyed by all.
