After coming to Queens, N.Y., at just 15 years old, Miguel Rodriguez took the leap and later moved to Newtown to work at Newtown Deli & Catering as its manager.
He dedicated his life to the business for 16 years, having worked there from the very beginning, all the while striving to reach his ultimate goal of opening his own deli.
“In 2015, he decided it was time to make a change,” Mr Rodriguez’s son Miguel, Jr, said.
After visiting Brookfield Deli & Catering, 782 Federal Road, numerous times to get a feel for the bustling location and outgoing people, Mr Rodriguez knew it was the right move and purchased the deli in January 2016.
He worked with his family to prepare the business and officially reopened it in March of that year.
After successfully achieving his dream of owning his own deli, Mr Rodriguez later became to proud owner of the Newtown Deli & Catering, purchasing it last October.
Now Mr Rodriguez runs both delis with his family, including his son, and daughter Nancy.
Brookfield Deli & Catering seats about 20 in its plaza location, which is located just down the road from the Brookfield Town Center.
The site is ideal for on-the-go customers to have easy access when looking for a quick bite to eat, as well as for those who choose to sit and enjoy the family friendly atmosphere.
Many loyal customers even take the trip from Newtown to Brookfield to enjoy the food they love and the welcoming environment they look forward to.
The food is all homemade, with many dishes having an Italian influence, and there is a strong attention to detail. All meats are Boar’s Head brand products, which complementary items like cold-cut sandwiches.
Parties can even have their events catered by Brookfield Deli, which has pickup and delivery options.
“Customer satisfaction is our number one priority,” Nancy said.
Her father echoed the sentiment saying, “We try to please all the customers and give them the best service.”
A Sample of the Menu:
Breakfast: There are seven specialty breakfast sandwich options on Brookfield Deli & Catering’s menu. A popular selection is the #2, a grilled pastrami with double egg and double pepper jack cheese on a pretzel roll for $5.95. Additional breakfast options like omelettes and wraps are also available everyday.
Hot Foods: Customers come out to enjoy the meatloaf and mashed potatoes made exclusively on Wednesdays. Different hot food specials are available daily, all of which are posted on Brookfield Deli’s Facebook page.
Specialty Sandwiches: A best-selling item is The Stallion, made with chicken cutlet, prosciutto, roasted peppers, broccoli rabe, fresh mozzarella, and balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
Panini: There are grilled chicken, eggplant, chicken cutlet, turkey, and Caprese panini options. Each panini is $7.99.
Salads: The Haiti salad was created by a first-time customer who asked to customize her salad. It had such good reviews it later was put on the board. The Haiti salad includes grilled chicken, mixed greens, strawberries, cranberries, walnuts, and feta cheese.
From The Grill: The deluxe bacon cheeseburger is $7.99 and is served with lettuce, onion, tomato, sliced pickle, and french fries.
Burritos: There is a range of burritos to choose from, including beef, pork, and chicken.
Grab & Go: Brookfield Deli & Catering offers a variety of homemade meals that are prepackaged to be on hand for those looking to grab a quick bite to eat. Everything from sandwiches and salads to fruit cups, bananas, and fresh yogurt parfaits are available.
Beverages: There are refreshing drinks like homemade iced coffee and homemade iced tea.
Sweets: The top three treats customers love are Brookfield Deli & Catering’s cheesecake, cannoli, and rice pudding.
Catering: The catering menu offers a variety of appetizers, salads, cold cut platters, pasta dishes, chicken, beef, pork, fish, vegetable, and desserts options. Hot food options not seen on the menu can be considered for catering upon customer’s request.
