The Junior American Legion's Bethel Admirals include Newtown's outfielder/pitcher Dan Fore, catcher Cole Demirjian, and outfielders Jack Miller and Ben Terry, as well as infielder Joey Caruso, who has been sidelined with an injury throughout the season. The Admirals posted an 11-6 regular-season record and finished third in the Zone 5 standings.

Seeded fifth, they breezed through the 17U state tournament's double-elimination pool play with a 3-0 record in mid-July, topping No. 12 Danbury 5-3, and No. 4 Trumbull 7-0 and 6-4. The Admirals continued tournament play in the round of the final eight on July 25, against top-seeded Cheshire, at Bethel High, and saw an overall strong season come to an end in a 2-1 loss.

In the 6-4 win over Trumbull, Demirjian, had two singles, a run batted in, and two runs scored, and Miller singled.

Demirjian leads the team in runs batted in, and Miller is among the team leaders in RBI, and had a walk-off hit during the regular season. Demirjian has been strong behind the plate, including throwing out would-be base stealers, and Miller, Forte, and Terry have all played solidly in the outfield. Additionally, Terry has pitched seven innings in relief and has not allowed an earned run, and Forte was 1-0 as a starting pitcher.

Although the summer season is brief, the Admirals have had to make their fair share of adjustments. Rain postponed games, causing the team to have four doubleheaders and had some games, including what would have been a fifth twin bill, rained out late in the campaign. The team overcame a bit of adversity early on.

"We learned a lot about ourselves. We had a lot of injuries early in the year and players had to switch positions. Everyone's been doing their job," Coach Andrew Guercio said.

The program gives high school players a chance to work on skills during a month-plus of competitive wood-bat action. In the case of the Admirals, it also provides an opportunity for competing schools to come together.

"It's always nice to add two powerhouses together and create a very strong team," said assistant coach Nick Spinella, a former player in the program. "The Admiral baseball program is a great thing for both towns."
