Holiday Book Sale Will Be Filled With Bargains

By Nancy K. Crevier

The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library will once again present a holiday book sale, this year to take place on Saturday, December 4, from 9:30 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, December 5, from 10 am to 5 pm, in the hallway near the Children’s Department of the library.

“We’ll have a large selection of holiday themed items,” said Marge Gingolaski, who is coordinating the event with the assistance of Millie Anderson and Denise Kaiser, “plus other gift quality books that have been donated to the Friends.”

Mysteries, thrillers, cookbooks, fiction, nonfiction, picture books, coffee table books, DVDs and CDs, books for children and young adults, and games, all in gift-giving condition, will be available at deeply discounted prices. “Nearly everything will be under $10,” said Ms Gingolaski.

A rare exception are two brand new copies of The Murder Room: The Heirs of Sherlock Holmes Gather to Solve the World’s Most Perplexing Cold Cases by Michael Capuzzo. The nonfiction books have been signed by both the author and the illustrator, and will be offered for $25 each.

The holiday book sale is timed to coordinate with the other holiday festivities about town that weekend, said Ms Gingolaski, including the Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning and the annual Holiday Festival and House Tour sponsored by Newtown Youth & Family Services on Sunday.

“Last year, the Friends raised $1,500 with a one-day sale. We are hoping to make closer to $2,000 this year,” said Ms Gingolaski. All of the funds generated by the holiday book sale go back to the C.H. Booth Library, she said, to support programs and purchase supplies.
