Hockey Team Heads Into Regular Season Finale

Newtown High School's hockey team defeated the Shepaug-Litchfield-Thomaston-Nonnewaug team twice since mid February, earning a 10-0 triumph at Danbury Ice Arena on Senior Night, February 15, and skating to a 4-0 victory at The Gunnery, in Washington, on February 20.

The Nighthawks were defeated 6-0 by visiting Trumbull on February 14, and lost 3-1 to Amity of Woodbridge, in West Haven, on February 17. Newtown was beaten 7-2 by host Branford on February 22.

The Hawks carried a 12-7 record into its regular-season finale; North Haven comes to Danbury Ice Arena, for a 12:40 pm game on Saturday, February 25.

In the 10-0 triumph Domenic Cartelli scored three goals and had two assists, Scott McLean and Lucas O'Brien both lit the lamp twice and set up another tally, David Brestovansky scored, Andrew Gardner had his first goal of the season and added an assist, and Adam Gray netted his first varsity goal.

McLean scored twice, and Cartelli and Cole Bepko each scored in the 4-0 win. Cartelli and McLean have both surpassed 50 points this season.

The postseason is set to begin with the South-West/ Southern Connecticut conference playoff semifinals on March 1.
