The foundation of Henschel Quartett's international career was launched in 1994, when cellist Mathias Beyer-Karlshøj joined founding members Christoph, Markus, and Monika Henschel, and the quartet devoted itself exclusively to chamber music. In February 2016 the quartet welcomed the celebrated violinist Catalin Desaga as a new member.newtownfriendsofmusic.org. Tickets can also be reserved by calling 415-999-4955.

Since its inception, the Quartett has won acclaim and delighted audiences around the world. Newtown Friends of Music is pleased to be able to host them on the stage of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, on Sunday, March 19, at 3 pm.

The quartet's musical journey has included performances at the official reopening of the Anna-Amalia Library in Weimar, travels to Brussels as a cultural ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, a March 2010 performance at the Vatican in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI, and regular invitations to the Royal Palace of Madrid to perform on the four Stradivari of the royal collection.

In June 2012 the Henschel Quartett was invited, as the first European quartet in 20 years, to perform Beethoven's complete string quartets in the prestigious Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

In Newtown this month the quartet will perform works by Mozart, Schulhoff, and Beethoven.

Tickets are $25, cash or check only. Students K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Students with a valid school ID are also admitted free of charge.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by sending check and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Newtown Friends of Music, PO Box 295, Newtown CT 06470-0295.
