Healthy Treasure Hunt Adventures At Children’s Day At Danbury Hospital

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital invites children and families to attend the 14th Annual Children’s Day on Saturday, March 19. The event will take place from 10 am to 2 pm at the Danbury Hospital campus, 24 Hospital Avenue.

The purpose of Children’s Day is to introduce children to Danbury Hospital in a nonthreatening way by creating a fun-filled day of educational activities while at the same time promoting preventive health and safety geared toward the unique needs of children.

Park free in Red (Locust Avenue) parking garage. Registration takes place in the Praxair Cancer Center Lobby located on the first floor of the Stroock Building.

Healthy Treasure Hunt Adventures include inspection of an ambulance, EMS and area police vehicles, fire truck, Wellness on Wheels (WOW) van and STAT Flight helicopter (the helicopter will arrive 11 am to noon, weather permitting).

Tours of the Galante Pediatric Suites-Emergency Department, Radiology (x-ray) Department, Duracell Center for Ambulatory Surgery, and Pediatrics/Adolescent Unit.

There will be three, 40-minute performances — at 10:30 am, 11:45 am, and 1 pm — by John Farrell, singer/songwriter/storyteller, in the John C. Creasy Center for Health Education auditorium. Seating is free, but limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will be an Amber Alert Child ID program courtesy of the Danbury Rotary Clubs in partnership with the Danbury/New Fairfield Woman’s Club (first ID card free, $2 each additional card).

Free health education and screenings including vision, blood pressure, and height/weight profiles for children as well as blood pressure screenings for adults will be offered, as well as booths promoting good nutrition and exercise, Ask-A-Pediatrician, See Your Heart … Hear Your Heart, trauma prevention, and bicycle safety

Meet hockey team mascots from the Danbury Trashers and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, enjoy face painting, and the many other activities offered.

Danbury Hospital’s Children’s Day is made possible by contributions of local sponsors including the Danbury Public Schools, Union Savings Bank, local police and fire departments, and many other community and civic-minded youth groups, businesses and organizations. There are a limited number of free giveaways while supplies last.
