‘ROME, ITALY, AND EUROPE’ WILL OPEN AT BENTON MUSEUM OF ART NOV. 6

AVV 9-11 #712028

STORRS, CONN. — The William Benton Museum of Art will present the exhibition, “Rome, Italy And Europe,” on view November 6–December 21 and January 22–May 11.

“Rome, Italy and Europe” reflects the various ways the classical tradition and the Roman landscape influenced European art. In the visual arts, the classical tradition flourished by the appropriation of classical architecture, monuments and sculpture as motifs into paintings, drawings, prints and wall decoration, and also by the stylistic influence of antique art directly or as it was filtered through the Renaissance and subsequent classicizing eras.

Highlighting the exhibition will be works by Jan Weenix, Giovanni Maldurra, Gerard de Lairesse, Benjamin West, Jan Both, Hermann van Swanevelt, James Watson and Johann Martin Schmidt.

The William Benton Museum Of Art is at the Storrs campus of University of Connecticut at 245 Glenbrook Road. For more information, www.Benton.UConn.edu or 860-486-4520.
