Guided Walk At Orenaug Park
Guided Walk At Orenaug Park
WOODBURY â The Woodbury Open Space Strategy and Implementation Committee will sponsor a guided walk through Orenaug Park on Saturday, May 19, at 10 am.
Hikers are being asked to park in the upper lot immediately behind Woodbury Library, 269 Main Street South. The group will then carpool to the starting point on Park Road.
Participants will walk with and listen to Dick Leavenworth while he explains why it is so important the 135-year old park continue to remain as open space.
Participants will then group together for carpooling to the starting point on Park Road. The walk will be a 90-minute moderately paced, mostly gradual uphill walk, which will end at the library parking lot.
Orenaug Park is located high on the east side of Main Street behind the houses and town office buildings. There is an observation tower which was first constructed of wood and erected around 1870; the current steel tower has been in place since the 1920s. The pillars at the entrance to the park include stones from each of the states.
Mr Leavenworth will review the official history of the park as well as some interesting anecdotes from its long past.
In addition to learning about this beautiful park in the center of Woodbury, the members of the Open Space Committee will be on hand, and will share the goals and concerns of their committee.Â
All interested individuals are welcome, children included. Committee members are asking that dogs are left at home.
Dress appropriately, as the walk will take place rain or shine.
