Golf, Tennis, And Volleyball Teams Compete

Recent results from Newtown High School's golf, tennis, and volleyball teams are as follows:

Golf: The girls beat host Stratford 181-284 on April 25, and defeated visiting Joel Barlow of Redding 186-220 at Rock Ridge Country Club on April 27. The boys beat visiting Immaculate of Danbury 165-189 on April 20, narrowly topped host New Milford 169-170 on April 25, and were edged by host Pomperaug of Southbury 163-162 on April 27.

Against Stratford, Sarah Houle had a one-under par 34, Molly Wilson shot a 44, Hannah Logan 50, and Liz Wesigerber 53.

In the Immaculate match, Josh Houle fired a 37, Colin Patrick 42, Michael Meyer 43, David Brestovansky 43, Tim Davis 48, Patrick Ryan 49. Against New Milford, Houle shot a 39, Meyer and Ryan Patrick both shot a 43, Colin Patrick 44, and Brestovansky and Mike Macchiarulo both shot a 46. Against Pomperaug, Ryan Patrick shot a 38, Houle 40, Brestovansky 42, Meyer 43, and Colin Patrick 44.

The girls' tennis team defeated Pomperaug of Southbury 5-2 on April 25. Winners for Newtown were singles players Lauren Beier, Amanda Berry, and Anna Biondi, along with the doubles teams of Tessa Leon-Gambetta and Sophie Wolfman. The girls also beat visiting Stratford by a 5-2 count, on April 27. Beier and Berry won singles matches, and all three doubles tandems won: No. 1 Emily McCoy and Julia Anderson, No. 2 Leon-Gambetta and Wolfman, and No. 3 Anika Dholakia and Hayley Lambert. The boys' tennis team blanked Stratford 7-0 on April 27.

On the volleyball court, dropped a five-game match to host Daniel Hand of Madison on April 22 as Hand won 3-2 (25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9). Gavin Stubbs had six kills and six blocks, Robert Katrinak had three aces and two blocks, Jackson Fletcher racked up 17 digs, and Nick Lansing added 12 assists and three blocks.
