Gerald E. Mullins, Sr

Gerald E. “Moon” Mullins, Sr, 85, a lifelong resident of Stamford, died March 22, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Stamford, April 26, 1929, and was the son of the late John and Delia Beirne Mullins.

His loving wife Dorothy Gronau Mullins; his sons and wives, Patrick and Ticia Mullins of Sandy Hook, Gerry Jr and Patty Ann Mullins of Stamford, and Bryan and Maureen Mullins of Stamford; his grandchildren, Gerry III, Erin, Casey, Samantha, Sean, Bryan Jr, Jamie, Patrick Jr, and Shannon Mullins; his sister Irene Sirico of New Canaan; his great-granddaughter; several loving nieces and nephews; and many great friends, too numerous to mention, survive Mr Mullins. His siblings Jane Stanek, John Mullins, Margaret Marcel, and Madeline Hoder predeceased him.

Mr Mullins proudly served as a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean War.

He is remembered as the hardest working man from the “Cove,” having worked 16 years without a day off. He was a self-made businessman, entrepreneur, and real estate tycoon. His home away from home was Cape Cod, Mass.

Mr Mullins put his family before anything else, having always made his family feel safe. Larger than life, his generosity shown through his longtime support of numerous charities and local sports leagues. His favorite catchphrase was the iconic Jackie Gleason line, “How sweet it is!”

A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, Friday, March 27, at 9:10 am and proceed to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, for a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 am. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. Friends and family may call at the funeral home, Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 8 pm.
