"Making Peace With Bees" will be the topic for the Wednesday, April 12, meeting of the Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown. Kathy Olson, also known as "The Bee Lady from Meriden," will provide information on three types of local bees: honeybees, bumblebees, and carnivorous bees.

She will also talk about their anatomy, lifestyles, diseases and challenges, including colony collapse disorder.

For those interested in allergy treatments, she will explain about apitherapy, which is based in part on using local honey as a preventative for allergies.

Ms Olson's interest in bees began more than 35 years ago, when, as a first grade teacher, she realized that many of her students were extremely frightened of bees. Her research revealed that bees actually deserve environmental support and assistance.

She has since shared her information in schools, nature centers, libraries, civic groups, senior centers, and with many garden clubs.

The program will be held at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road, beginning at 6:30 pm. All are welcome.

For additional information call 203-426-5539.
