Friends Of Newtown Seniors (FONS) is asking residents over the age of 50 to take part in a survey. According to FONS Chairman John Boccuzzi, "The initiative was approved by Board of Selectmen and the hard copies of the survey were printed by the town. The project is a joint effort of the Commission on Aging and Friends of Newtown Seniors.

"Pat Llodra asked the Friends to take the lead on it," he continued. "We are working with AARP and have joined the Livable Community Consortium which links the various projects through Facebook and e-mail."

Only Newtown and Greenwich have signed on so far in Connecticut, Mr Boccuzzi said, and added, "The first step we took was to analyze the eight domains which form the core of the initiative to see how Newtown looks right now.

"Using these survey results along with a more general survey which was completed in 2014 by the Commission on Aging, as well as the results of a statewide survey completed by AARP, we hope to put together a plan for addressing the gaps that exist here in Newtown."

To take the survey visit surveymonkey.com or the FONS website, friendsofnewtownseniors.org, choose Resources, then Click Here under the survey 2017 explanation; or print out the survey and mail to Friends of Newtown Seniors, PO Box 413, Newtown CT 06470.

The organization would like to have completed surveys in hand within the next six weeks.

A PDF of the FONS year-end report is available upon request.
